Service Learning – Off Campus

Grade Level:  12th (Pass/Fail course)

Credits:  ½ Credit (semester course)

(May not double enroll in on-campus service learning) This course is for off-campus volunteer work in non-profit organizations in the community (i.e. Red Cross, Head Start, Elementary Schools, etc.)  Students will be required to keep a weekly journal, to research social issues within the community, and to present a power point presentation at the end of the course to illustrate their experience.  Transportation is mandatory.

 
Service Learning –  On-Campus

Grade Level:  12th (Pass/Fail course)

Credits:  1 (full-year)

(May not enroll in off-campus service learning).

Students will develop knowledge and critical thinking skills while addressing genuine community needs.  The course is project oriented with a two-fold emphasis on teaching the students ecological principles and social skills.  Student groups will design an environmental project that will benefit the school, the community, or both.  The class may involve working outdoors, and may involve physical labor.
