Monday, November 17:
The Student Council Executive Council meets today at 7:45 am.  The Student Council meets tomorrow at 7:00 am in the MP Room.  Everyone is welcome.  Sign-ups for the next Stage Door are outside the Theatre Lab. Auditions are November 20th.

Tuesday, November 18:
The Cougar Girls and Boys Basketball Teams play BGA at home today starting at 6:30 pm.  Centennial’s Swim Teams have a meet at LaVergne at 5:30 pm.  The Bowling Team plays Independence at Tusculum Lanes at 3:30 pm.  All juniors are invited to a Prom Committee meeting in room 114 at 2:45 pm tomorrow.

Wednesday, November 19:
The STARS Student Executive Council is sponsoring a school wide Toy Drive to benefit Mercy Children's Clinic in Franklin. The toy drive will run from November 17th until December 10th. Students are seeking donations of new unwrapped toys.  Adonation box will be located in the Counseling Center.  The Cougar Hockey Team plays Independence/Page at Southern Ice 2 at 7:25 pm today.

Thursday, November 20:
The Coming Home Committee will meet today at 2:45 pm in room 114.  Everyone is welcome.  The CHS JV Competition Cheer Squad took 1st place at the Bluegrass Regional competition in Lexington, KY on Saturday, November 8th.  Team members are Lindsey Chesak, Tara Davis, Kelsey Earp, Mary Kathryne Echols, Ellen Gaines, Megan Gattis, Hannah Grant, Lisa Manci, Juli Mitchell, Katie Potts, Catie Rocco, Paige Simmons, Haley Stillings and Taylor Ward.

Friday, November 21:
Class rings will be delivered December 3rd during lunch in the circle.  Students may order rings on that day with a $50 deposit.  The Thanksgiving Holiday begins Monday, November 24th through November 28th.

Monday, November 10:
The junior class will be selling donuts before school today for .50 each or 5.00 per dozen.  All proceeds support the CHS Junior-Senior Prom.  Student Council Executive Council meets today at 7:45 am.  A General Council Student Council Meeting will be held tomorrow at 7:00 am in the MP Room.  Everyone is invited to attend.  The 2008 Governor’s Schools applications are now available on line and may be downloaded at the Department of Education’s website, http://www.state.tn.us/education/govschools/.  Applications must be turned in to your counselor by November 14th

 Tuesday, November 11:
Congratulations the CHS Thespians, a Drama Honor Society, for their success in the National Campaign called Trick or Treat so Kids Can Eat. Our troupe collected 1378 pounds of food donated to Second Harvest Food Bank. This exceeds last year’s total by over 1000 pounds.  This group of student volunteers was led by Kelsey Hendrixson.  The Cougar Marching Band is selling fruit, greenery and poinsettias.  See any member of the band to purchase.  The Prom Committee will meet tomorrow in room 114 at 2:45 pm.

 Wednesday, November 12:
The sophomore class is selling holiday gift tags at Centennial’s Holiday Show Saturday, November 22nd, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday, November 23rd, from noon to 4:00 pm.  The Coming Home Committee will meet tomorrow at 2:45 pm in room #114.  Everyone is invited to participate.  Centennial’s Theatre Arts Department will present Brother Goose November 13th, 15th and 16th.  Performances of this Freshmen and Sophomore produced comedy are November 13th and 15th at 7:00 pm and November 16th at 2:00 pm.  Tickets are $7 at the door and the public is welcome. 

 Thursday, November 13:
Performance of Brother Goose, a Centennial Freshmen and Sophomore produced comedy, is tonight at 7:00 pm.  Tickets are $7 and the public is welcome.  Jobs for America’s Graduates will hold their Annual National Student Leadership Conference on December 3rd thru the 7th in Washington D.C.  Centennial students Guadalupe Garcia and Ashley Patton have been selected by an off campus committee to represent our school based on their submitted essays, transcripts, letters of recommendation and volunteer service.  Aaron Chaney, T. J. Steele and Cherlia Fleming were selected to serve as alternate representatives.

 Friday, November 14:
Julie Beydler, Centennial Junior, was recently selected as the Best Female Student at the National Sojourners Youth Leadership Conference in Huntsville, Alabama.  Students from all over Middle Tennessee and Northern Alabama attended the conference.  The Cougar Ice Hockey Team plays Father Ryan tonight at 6:25 pm at Southern Ice 2.  Brother Goose, a Centennial Freshmen and Sophomore produced comedy, will be presented Saturday, November 15th, at 7:00 pm and Sunday, November 16th, at 2:00 pm.  The public is welcome.  Tickets are $7 at the door.

Monday, November 3:
Centennial’s Junior Competition Cheer Squad recently won 1st Place at the Tennessee Extreme Regionals held at Warren County High School in McMinnville, TN.  The squad also received a bid to the National Competition to be held in February 2009 in Orlando, Florida.  Liberty University will be visiting CHS on today.  Please sign up in the counseling center if you would like to attend.  The CHS Student Council is attending the TN Association of Student Council Area Workshop in Hendersonville today.

Tuesday, November 4:
The Cougar Marching Band is selling fruit, greenery and poinsettias.  See any member of the band to purchase.  The Centennial Holiday Show is Saturday, November 22nd, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday, November 23rd, from noon to 4:00 pm. 

Wednesday, November 5:
The University of Tennessee Knoxville will be visiting CHS on Thursday, November 6th.  Please sign up in the counseling center if you would like to attend. The Cougar Swim Team competes in the Fighting Irish Relays tomorrow afternoon at TSU.

Thursday, November 6:
Centennial’s Bowling Teams have matches with Fairview today at Franklin Lanes at 3:30 pm.  Forty-four CHS students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams.  About 18 percent of the 1.6 million students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award.

Friday, November 7:
Centennial’s Theatre I and Theatre II students are producing Brother Goose.  This comedy will be presented at 7:00 pm on November 13th and 15th and at 2:00 pm on November 16th.

Monday, October 27:
The Cougar Girls Basketball Team tryouts will be held today through Wednesday, October 29th, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm in the gym.  Contact Coach Cherish Stringfield for additional information.  Centennial’s Student Council is sponsoring the annual Canned Food Drive for the football game against Franklin on Friday, October 31st.  Collection boxes will be in classrooms all week.  The CHS Choral Department is selling breads and pastries through November 7th.  The cost is $11.  Contact a choral student to order or contact Felicia Barber at 472-4270 ext. 2371 or feliciab@wcs.edu for information.

Tuesday, October 28:
The Cougar Bowling Teams compete with Page today at 3:30 pm at Tusculum Lanes.  Centennial’s Choral Department will present their Fall Concert featuring the Concert, Women's and Beginning Mixed Choirs on Thursday, November 7th at 7:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church on the corner of Mac Hatcher and Franklin Road.  Admission is free.  The Choral Department will be selling their latest CD for $12.  For further information, contact Felicia Barber at 472-4270 ext. 2371 or feliciab@wcs.edu.

Wednesday, October 29:
Dr. Rebecca Sharber recently presented a Clean Air Partnership Award received by Williamson County Schools to Centennial High School based on the efforts of the students and staff at CHS to improve the environment.  Dr. Terry Shrader congratulated David Schklar’s Ecology class for their efforts and this recognition.  David Schklar’s students were also awarded the Tennessee Pollution Prevention Partnership (TP3) green flag last month.  CHS continues to work to lower our ecological footprint on our environment bettering our community.

Thursday, October 30:
The Spring Drivers Education Class at CHS will begin registration in November through January.  Classes are February 9-13, February 16-20 and February 23-27.  Please contact Don Kirby at donkwcs.edu for more information.  Centennial’s Canned Food Drive continues through tomorrow.

Friday, October 31:
The Cougars play at Franklin at 7:30 pm.  Monday, November 3rd, is not a late start day.  A Mock Election will be held Monday for Centennial students to vote for President.  Homerooms will serve as precincts and the results will be reported by the end of the day.  Dawn Marek’s Electronic Media classes produced a series of Election Promos for both Senators McCain and Obama.  These spots have been running during the Morning Rawr Show to encourage students to vote in the Mock Election. 

 

Monday, October 13:
Centennial students selected to perform in the All State, Mid State and Freshman Honors Choir for 2008-2009 are Paul Berger, Peter Horecka, Lauren Lloyd, Chloe Poole, Rachel Dipillo, Sue Bin Chae, Tayla Lammers, Megan Boulden, Sandra Kennelly, Shelby Stielstra and Maggie Trabbuco.  Be The Change meets today in the Library after school. 

Tuesday, October 14:
Plan and PSAT testing will be on Wednesday, October 15th.  Murray State will be visiting CHS tomorrow.  Sign up in the Counseling Center.  Centennial’s Girls Soccer Team will honor their Seniors tomorrow night before the home game against Lebanon.   CHS Senior, T J Steele, attended the Presidential Debate at Belmont University and shared his observation of the experience with Kathy Riser’s Business Economics Class as part of their study of the impact of the presidential debate on the Middle Tennessee Economy.      

Wednesday, October 15:
Centennial’s Bowling Team has a match today with Hillwood at 3:30 pm at Franklin Lanes.  The Cougar Volleyball Team begins district tournament play today at Independence against Hillsboro at 7:00 pm.  CHS Girls Soccer tonight at home against Lebanon at 7:00 pm. 

Thursday, October 16:
Centennial’s Cross Country Team will compete today in the Metro Championship at the Steeplechase Course.  The CHS Homecoming ’08 Powder Puff Game will be on WCTV today at 8:00 am, 1:30 pm and 6:00 pm.  District Volleyball Tournament continues at Independence.

Friday, October 17:
Students who are interested in the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga are invited to two events:  Freshmen Friday on October 24 and Fall Visit Day on November 12.  Held on the UTC Campus, prospective students will be able to attend classes with a UTC student, take a campus tour, interact with UTC staff, and hear presentations on Admissions, Financial Aid, Housing, and the Honors Program.  Reservations for one or both events can be made at www.utc.edu/admissions/tour.

Monday, October 6:
Honored during Centennial’s Homecoming celebration were Michelle Chieng, Homecoming Queen, Allison Woods, Senior Attendant, Tiayana Mays, Junior Attendant, Jillian Link, Sophomore Attendant and Nicole Chieng, Freshman Attendant.  DVD copies of Centennial’s 2008 Homecoming will be available after October 15th for $20.  Proceeds support the Electronic Media Department and checks should be payable to CHS.    Student Council meets tomorrow at 7:00 am in the Multi-Purpose Room.  The Fall Drivers Education Class begins today.  Space is still available.  Registration forms are available at http://teachers2.wcs.edu/high/chs/donk/default.aspx.  Centennial’s JV Volleyball Team has matches with Franklin, Page and Brentwood at Brentwood today starting at 4:00 pm.  The CHS Girls Soccer Team plays at Ensworth today at 4:30 pm.

Tuesday, October 7:
The Student Council Prom Committee meets tomorrow after school in room 114.  Jobs for TN Graduates and the TN Career Association are selling customized decals for all Centennial sports, organizations and clubs.  Decal prices range from $1 to $10. The Cougar Golf Team placed 2nd in the Region Tournament.  Bria Norris and Jessica Kubalak advanced to the State Tournament being played today and tomorrow at Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro.  The Cougar Bowling Team has a match today against Ravenwood at Franklin Lanes at 3:30 pm.  Centennial’s Varsity Volleyball Team has matches with Franklin and Brentwood at Brentwood today starting at 4:00 pm.

Wednesday, October 8:
Seniors will be honored at Centennial’s final home volleyball match today against Columbia Central; JV plays at 4:15 pm and Varsity at 5:45 pm. The Varsity Volleyball Team will participate in the Blackman Invitational on October 10th and 11th.  Centennial’s Swim Team is selling Smart Cards.  See any member of the Swim Team or Coach Debbie Chessor.

Thursday, October 9:
The Cougar Girls Soccer Team plays Brentwood Academy at home today at 7:00 pm.  JTG classes at Centennial are working on their scholarship project using excel to create a spreadsheet to track college admissions and scholarship due dates.  This project continues through March 1, 2009.  Centennial’s Choral Association is selling cookie dough.  See any member of the Chorus to order.

Friday, October 10:
The Cougars play Ravenwood at home at 7:30 pm.  Centennial’s Theatre Department will present their first fall production, The Curious Savage, October 9th and 11th at 7:00 pm and October 12th at 2:00 pm.  This performance is by CHS Seniors and Juniors.  Be The Change meets Monday after school in the Library.  Yearbook makeup pictures will be taken October 14th.  See Ed for details.

Monday, September 29:
Representatives from Rhodes College will visit today at 9:00 am and representatives from the University of Evansville and High Point University will be at Centennial tomorrow at 9:00 am.  Students may sign up in the Counseling Center.  Track Team conditioning begins tomorrow for athletes not participating in a fall sport.  See Coach Courtney Ben, room 248, for more information.  Centennial’s Culinary Arts Class, brand new this year, will soon have Paw Print Pastries open for business.  Students will manage the bakery as well as bake fresh products to sell daily.  Biscuits, cinnamon rolls, muffins and other delectable baked goodies will go on sale to students, faculty and staff on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of every week.  Paw Print Pastries will be open between 2
nd and 3rd period classes outside Kay Heep’s classroom in the circle. 

Tuesday, September 30:
Seniors will meet tomorrow during homeroom regarding ordering graduation caps, gowns and announcements.  Representatives from Queens University of Charlotte will be at CHS tomorrow at 9:00 am.  Students may sign up in the Counseling Center.  The last opportunity to order class rings is tomorrow during lunch and after school in the Circle.  A $50 deposit is required.  The Cougar Varsity Volleyball Team plays at DCA today with match play starting at 4:00 pm against DCA and 5:30 pm against Goodpasture.  Also today, the JV Volleyball Team travels to Independence with a match against Ravenwood at 4:00 pm and Independence at 6:00 pm.  Centennial’s Girls Soccer Team travels to Siegel today with JV play at 5:00 pm and Varsity at 7:00 pm.   

Wednesday, October 1:
CHS families will receive yearbook information soon by mail.  To purchase a 2008-09 Yearbook, you should respond to this mailing as yearbooks will not be sold at school until after Spring Day begins.  To place an ad in Centennial’s fabulous yearbook, contact Debbie Chessor at debbiec3@wcs.edu.  Athletic season passes are still on sale.  The Family pass is $75, the Single Adult Pass is $50 and the Student Pass is $40. 

 
Thursday, October 2:
Centennial hosts a district volleyball match today with match play against Hillwood at 4:00 pm and Independence at 5:30 pm.  The Cougar Girl’s Varsity Soccer Team plays at Franklin today at 7:00 pm.   Representatives from The University of Arkansas and St. Louis University will be at CHS tomorrow at 9:00 am.  Students may sign up to meet with the representatives in the Counseling Center. 

Friday, October 3:
The Cougar Football Team plays at Dickson County tonight at 7:30.  Centennial’s Girls Soccer Team hosts Collierville tomorrow at 4:00 pm.  WC Middle College is offering ACT prep classes on five Tuesdays beginning November 4th and five Thursdays beginning November 6th.  Class times are 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm.  Call 931-540-2660 to register.

Monday, September 22:

t’s Homecoming Week featuring Spirit Days.  Today is Pajama Day.  Students may order class rings tomorrow from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm in the circle.  Parent night for ordering is tomorrow from 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm.  The CHS Choral Department’s fall fundraiser, selling Premium Cookie Dough, continues through October 6th.  The dough will arrive the first week of November just in time for the holidays.  Cost is $12- $14 dollars for a 3lb. tub.  For more information, contact Felicia Barber at feliciab@wcs.edu, or 472-4270 ext. 2371.  Centennial’s JV Volleyball Team has a match with DCA, Father Ryan and Brentwood at Brentwood starting at 4:00 pm today.  Friday’s Homecoming Parade will feature floats from every class and many school clubs. Any student that wishes to drive a car in the parade may do so if the car is decorated with the Homecoming theme or CHS spirit.  Pick up a permission form in the cafeteria and turn it into Ashley Hodges or Beth Bivins by Tuesday, September 23, along with a $5 fee.  Be The Change meets today in the Library after school.   Everyone is welcome.  The PTSO meets tonight at 6:30 pm in the Library.

 Tuesday, September 23:
Spirit Week continues with Game Character Day. Students may order class rings tomorrow from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm in the circle.  The Second Annual Cougar Crank Up begins tonight at 6:30 pm with box dinners and homemade ice cream on the football field.  This Ice Cream Social will be a competition for the best homemade ice cream. There will be a competition for the Most Souped-Up Car, the Most Spirited Car, the Most People You Can Fit in a Car, the Loudest Stereo System, and the Ugliest Car. Other competitions include Limbo and Guitar Hero.  All competitions begin at 7:00 pm and prizes will be awarded to the winners.  Competition forms are available in the front office.  Parent Teacher Conferences are today from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm.  No appointment is necessary. 

 Wednesday, September 24:
Today is Sports Day of Spirit Week.  The Cougar Varsity Volleyball Team has a match at home today with BGA at 4:30 pm.  Centennial’s Cross Country Teams will compete in the Scrimmage Run at Vaughn’s Creek today at 4:00 pm.  The JV Girls Soccer Team plays at Page today at 6:00 pm.  Jobs for TN Graduates and the TN Career Association will be selling decals for your car windows, doors and notebooks at the low price of $10.  Decals are available for football, cheerleading, soccer, lacrosse, bowling, basketball, hockey, golf, swimming, volleyball, tennis, wrestling, baseball, softball, step team, dance team and track.  Decals may be pre-ordered between classes, on break or before and after school by seeing Debra Odom or any JTG student for your pre-order form.  Decals will also be available at home games in the very near future.

Thursday, September 25:
Spirit Week continues with Bright Color Day.  The Cougar Varsity Volleyball Team has district matches today at Overton against Franklin and Hillsboro at 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm.  Centennial’s Girls Soccer Team plays Independence at home today with JV at 5:00 pm and Varsity at 7:00 pm.  The Cougar Marching Band recently competed with 22 bands in five classes in the Hendersonville Golden Invitational.  CHS was one of only three bands receiving a Superior, the highest rating given.   Other awards received by the band were First Place Horn Line in their Class, First Place Percussion in their Class and First Place Overall, First Place Color Guard in their Class and Second Place Overall and First Place Band in their class and Second Place Overall.  Parent Teacher Conferences are today from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm.  No appointment is necessary. 

 Friday, September 26:
It’s Spirit Day at CHS.  This year’s homecoming game is against Glencliff. The Parade will begin at 1:00 pm.  Tailgating will begin in the parking lot around 4:00 pm.  The Homecoming Court presentations will begin on the football field at 6:30 pm and the game will begin at 7:30 pm.  The Homecoming Dance will be held Saturday, September 27th, from 7:00 pm to midnight in the Cougar Dining Hall. Tickets are $10 at the door.  The dress is formal. The CHS Theatre Department will present their first fall production, The Curious Savage, on October 9th and 11th at 7:00 pm and October 12th at 2:00 pm.  This comedy is performed by the Seniors and Juniors.

 

Monday, September 8:
The Cougar JV Volleyball Team will play at Franklin today, playing Independence at 5:00 pm and Franklin at 6:00 pm.  Auditions to sing the national anthem at football and basketball games will be held in the choral room today, Wednesday and Friday.  Sign up on the choral room door.  Support the Junior Prom Committee and enjoy a tasty hot donut Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week.   Donuts will be sold just outside the Cougar Dining Hall.  PSAT sign up with money due is September 8-12 in the counseling center.  The cost is $15.00 payable to CHS.  CHS Rhythm & Shoes, a group dedicated to the awareness and advancement of ballroom/swing dance, will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, September 9th, at 2:45 p.m. in room 114.  We will elect officers and learn East Coast Swing.  All students, faculty, and parents are welcome to attend.  You don't need a partner or any prior dance experience.  Be sure to bring shoes with slick soles (not tennis shoes or flip flops). 

Tuesday, September 9:
Beth Bivins' English III AP class will have a potluck parent orientation on Wednesday, September 10th, at 6:30 p.m. in room 114.  All AP students and parents are encouraged to attend.  Centennial’s JV Volleyball Team plays Ravenwood and Independence today at home.  Match times are 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm.  Centennial’s Cross Country Team participates in a scrimmage run tomorrow at Vaughn’s Creek at 4:00 pm.    

Wednesday, September 10:
Davidson College representatives visit CHS Thursday, September 11th, at 9:00 am.  Information is available in the Counseling Center.  Athletic Season Passes are available at $75 for family, $50 for adult and $40 for student.  Pass is good for all home games in every sport this school year.   Centennial’s Golf Teams play Franklin today at Brentwood Country Club at 3:30 pm.  

Thursday, September 11:
Representatives from Washington University and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville will visit CHS Friday, September 12th, at 9:00 am.  Information is available in the Counseling Center.  The Cougar Varsity Volleyball Team plays district matches at Hillwood today against Brentwood and Overton. Match times are 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm.  The Cougar Golf Teams play Independence and Ravenwood today at Forrest Crossing at 3:30 pm.  Centennial’s Girls Soccer Team plays Brentwood today at home at 7:00 pm.    

Friday, September 12:
The Cougar Football Team travels to Siegel for a 7:30 pm kick off.  Centennial, due to our conservation efforts and our Science and Service Learning classes, has been awarded the green Tennessee Pollution Prevention Partnership flag for another year.  CHS is one of three schools in the state with this designation.

Monday, September 1:

No school today.  Senior baby ads are due now. Please check the CHS website or email Debbie Chessor at debbiec3@wcs.edu for more information.  The Student Council will meet Tuesday, September 2, at 7:00 am in the Library Computer Lab.  Students interested in wrestling cheerleading should contact Sonya Fettke at junebugg3@comcast.net.   

 

Tuesday, September 2:

Centennial’s Girls Soccer Team plays at Pope John Paul II today at 5:15 pm.   The Prom Committee will meet tomorrow, September 3, after school in Room 114.   Recently, Dawn Johnson presented a video and documentation from the CHS AP Environmental Science class to representatives from industry and government.  This presentation is for Centennial High School to retain the Performer status with the Tennessee Pollution Prevention Partnership.  This status allows Centennial to fly a green TP3 flag.  CHS is only one of 3 schools in the state to have the flag.

 

Wednesday, September 3:

Centennial’s Cross Country Teams will participate today in a District Meet at Vaughn’s Creek Course starting at 4:00 pm.  The Homecoming Committee will meet tomorrow, September 4, after school in room 114.  Students interested in the SKILLS USA Club should meet in Dawn Marek’s room today after school. 

 

Thursday, September 4:

Centennial’s Volleyball Team hosts Ravenwood and Hillwood today with play beginning at 4:00 pm.  The Cougar Golf Teams play Franklin and Brentwood today at 3:30 pm at Brentwood Country Club.  FCA meets in the Senior Courtyard at 6:45 am on Friday mornings.  Be the Change recently held it’s first meeting of the school year and began planning events to help positively impact the lives of other CHS students this year. Plans include another blue ribbon day, a prom dress drive, and a dress code clothing drive at the end of the year. Be The Change is a student group open to all students.

 

Friday, September 5:

The Cougar Football Team plays at Independence tonight at 7:30 pm.  September 9 is the last day to sign up for the October 4 SAT test.  The Fall Drivers Education Class will begin in October.  Registration forms are available in the front office and online at http://teachers.wcs.edu/chs/donk.  Jobs for TN Graduates just completed 2 weeks of pen and paper and computer vocational/career and aptitude testing.  Julie Jackson of TN Technology Center Nashville will be a guest speaker on post secondary training plans today.  Future speakers will include 2 year and 4 year college reps, along with local employers to provide a clearer vision for our students preparing for just who they will become.
