| British artist Andy
Goldsworthy works with the outdoor environment to create art that
changes with time, like nature itself. His works are not meant to
be permanent and often decay, melt or wash away. People everywhere
are drawn to his art because of the exciting, respectful, and
responsible way in which Goldsworthy deals with nature.
Fifth grade students at Trinity
Elementary have also been learning about responsibility. After
viewing the recent Goldsworthy exhibit at the Frist Museum, these
students went on a field trip to Bowie Nature park in Fairview,
Tennessee. Students worked in small groups to find natural
materials and develop their own unique sculptures. After returning
to school, they completed creative writing assignments with the theme: responsibility
to our earth.
It has been a wonderful learning
experience. We have taken a closer look at our environment to see
what we can understand from nature.
