K-5 Elementary Art
A hands-on studio class. The students learn about famous artists, art
masterpieces, and the art of different cultures. We focus on the elements
and principles of visual art and learn different techniques and processes to
create our own art.
K-5
General Music
The goal of the elementary Music program is to foster a love of music, by
participation and to integrate with core curriculum. Students will gain a
sense of accomplishment and pride while learning to appreciate music through
various aspects including but not limited to performing on classroom
instruments, singing, moving, listening, composing, and creating. Students
will have exposure to several professional groups throughout the year.
K-5
Theatre
The elementary Theatre program strives to integrate with core curriculum by
promoting literacy through story time, group acting, script reading,
original script development, memorization of lines, development of inference
in reading and the use of imagery in interpretation. All Music and Theatre
productions contain elements of script, music, actors, directors, audience,
sound, props, lights, costumes, scenery, confidence, self-expression,
vocal and physical expression, articulation, character development,
creativity, group collaboration, and individual responsibility. |
Art
Students learn about the artistic process through a study of master artists
and art movements. Students create their own works of art using a variety
of media, processes, and techniques. Students are expected to talk about
their own artwork and the artwork of others in a meaningful way.
Band
Designed to develop an appreciation for music to foster students learning
through classical band instruments. Students will participate in a variety
of musical activities that will introduce them to the fundamentals of
musicality. Added skills will include individual repertoire building and
participation in small group ensemble. Concert performances will include
playing for various types of audiences, both formal and informal.
Beyond MTV
(A Study in Youth and Pop Culture)
In order to develop the critical thinking skills needed to become a
discriminating audience for the media's messages, students will study the
history, trends and influences of TV, radio, film, advertising, news and the
Internet and study how these forms of the media influence America’s
treatment of race, ethnicity, violence, age, gender and humor.
Commercial Music Band
Students will learn to play as a band in a rock combo/jazz band setting.
They will focus on playing different songs in different styles while using
their listening skills to better their playing ability.
Design
Students learn about the role of art in everyday life through a study of
design disciplines (ie. industrial design, graphic design, illustration,
interior design, etc.). Students create their own works of art using a
variety of media, processes, and techniques.
Film
This course provides a study of history through film and media. Students
will discuss how certain films changed the nature of film-making and its
effect of film history. |
Guitar
Classroom
instruction in popular styles of guitar playing including technique, music
reading, chord symbols and song accompaniment patterns.
Recording Studio Technology
Students will
learn to operate and maintain a working recording studio. They will have
hands on experience with analog and digital equipment including working with
the Pro-Tools recording medium.
Sculpture
Students learn and
apply the elements and principles of art through a study of 3-dimensional
artists and sculpting traditions. Students will create their own works of
art using a variety of 3-d media, processes, and techniques.
Technology Class
Students will
explore the problem solving process and various vocational fields with a
focus on problem solving, engineering, computer technology and robotics.
Theatre
Theatre Arts is designed as a survey course, providing students with an
intense sampling of all facts of theatre, with an emphasis being placed on
actor training. The subject matter will range from stage terminology,
structure of plays, and early theatrical history to vocal and movement
training.
Video Class
Students will
explore the fundamentals of video production. Areas of focus include
lighting, set design, script development, and filming techniques. Students
will edit their raw footage using multimedia editing software and transfer
the completed product to various media. |
