WESTWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
STAMPS OUT BULLYING

A program given at Westwood Elementary School April 20th provided students with an easy way to remember how to avoid bullies.  Jay Banks' STAMP Out Bullying presentation had a blend of jokes and physical comedy and was well received by both students and teachers.  While the program relied on humor to get the message across, the message is an important one kids need to understand.

"National research suggests that for every 10 times bullying takes place only one student tells," says Banks. "If we can empower kids to know that they can tell and that they don’t have to be afraid, then we’ll stamp out bullying in our schools."

"This program is designed to make them laugh," Banks adds.  "Because if they laugh they'll listen, and if they listen, they'll learn."

STAMP is an acronym that he hopes kids learn quickly.

S - Stay away from bullies
T - Tell someone
A - Avoid bad situations
M - Make friends
P - Project confidence
