READING ROCKS AT
PAGE MIDDLE

|
Reading rocks at Page Middle School. The Franklin Breakfast Rotary
presented the students and staff at Page Middle
School with a check for $2,000 on August 27. The money will
be used to purchase books for the school's Reading
Rocks program, which helps students improve their
literacy skills and excel in the classroom.
The Franklin Breakfast Rotary established the
program at Page Middle in 2007.
At Thursday's
ceremony, several students
explained how the Reading Rocks program has assisted
them in school. Eighth grader Nicholas Ainslie
told of how a book, Swimming Up Stream,
has helped to motivate him and improve his writing
skills. Another student, Hannah Berney, showed
off the diorama she made after reading the book
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.
Franklin Breakfast Rotary member Paul Gaddis joined WCS
Board Member and fellow Rotary member Mark Gregory for the presentation.
"We really appreciate the principals, teachers and
students for helping us figure out how this Reading
Rocks program should work," said Gaddis.
"You've gotten results and that's wonderful."
Gaddis says he hopes to eventually expand the
Reading Rocks program to other middle schools in the
district. |
