IHS RECEIVES STATE HONOR

Independence High School's Theatre Department is being honored for its production of The Sound of Music. The timeless musical was recently selected as one of two productions for the main stage at the Tennessee State Thespian Conference in Memphis. "Performing at the State Thespian Conference is one of the highest honors for theatre in the state of Tennessee," according to Theatre Director Jamie Guthrie. "It's like being state champs in musical theater."

The original production ran earlier this school year and grossed almost $10,000 for the school's theatre department. The school will present two encore performances January 11 and 12 before traveling to Memphis for the conference. Each performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for students and children four and under are free. Please call (615) 472-4600 for information.
