KEEPING KIDS SAFE ONLINE

Williamson County Schools has been recognized for keeping students safe while searching the Internet.  The Top 50 recognition is made by netTrekker d.i. Safe Search Awards Program.  This new program recognizes districts that are keeping kids safe when searching the Internet and that are providing an “extremely successful district-wide implementation” of the search engine.  WCS ranked 34th in the U.S. for its work in conducting safe searches.  Use was measured by the number of Internet searches conducted in the school district.

Williamson County Schools teaches Internet safety as part of the instructional program for all students.  In addition, the iSafe program has been implemented to teach students Internet safety through counselors, teachers, and librarians in grades K-12.  Implementation of netTrekker d.i. search engine has been led by elementary academic specialist/Tech Coaches and high school Tech Coaches.  All Williamson County teachers are to be commended for teaching students safe and effective ways of conducting research on the Internet.
