SCALES TEACHER HONORED

Scales Elementary
Visual Arts Teacher Heather McHugh |
Another honor has been bestowed upon Scales
Elementary School Visual Arts Specialist Heather
McHugh. She was recently named Outstanding
Teacher of the Humanities by the group Humanities
Tennessee. The award is given each year to
teachers who have demonstrated excellence in
teaching classical languages, literature philosophy
and art. McHugh was one of only five
recipients in the entire state.
The
award carries with it a stipend of $3,500, half of
which goes to the teacher so that he or she may
continue their professional development.

|
The
money can be used to cover tuition, travel and
living expenses for graduate courses, workshops or
seminars in the humanities. The remaining
$1,500 will go to the school for the purchase of
humanities instructional materials or for student
humanities projects.
McHugh is no stranger to awards. Last year,
she was named a Fulbright Scholar which allowed her
to travel and study in Japan for several months.
McHugh has also been recognized on the local level.
She was named the 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year for
