WCS PRINCIPALS PRESENT AT HIGH SCHOOL CONFERENCE

Seven WCS high school principals recently traveled to Florida to share information with hundreds of educators from across the nation.  The principals joined WCS High School Director Dan Hampton for the High School Redesign Conference in Boca Raton January 17 and 18.  The themes of this year's conference included freshman transition, parent involvement and postsecondary partnerships.

During their presentation, the group from Williamson County discussed late start days and the effect on instruction within each school.  One day each week, high school classes begin about 40 minutes later than usual, giving teachers an opportunity to collaborate and discuss ways for student improvement.  "Teachers are given the freedom to decide upon team goals that are tied into the results on common assessments," says Ravenwood Principal Dr. Pam Vaden.  "Finding better ways to get students to reach the benchmark and get over the bar is the true work of teacher teams on Power Monday."

The group from Williamson County included Brentwood High Principal Kevin Keidel, Fairview High Principal Tony Donen, Franklin High Principal Willie Dickerson, Independence High Principal Marilyn Webb, Page High Principal Andrea Anthony, Ravenwood High Principal Pam Vaden and Ravenwood Assistant Principal Leigh Webb.  They will present their findings to the School Board at a future work session.
