ISSUE 18
May 8, 2008
IN THIS ISSUE...

The school
year is winding down and summer break is almost here. This
issue of IN FOCUS features has many cool
stories you don't want to miss. First up, we'll
introduce you to an amazing fourth grader nicknamed
AWESOME
DAWSON. Find out how he's inspiring his fellow
classmates and teachers. Plus, students at Kenrose
Elementary School travel the world at their annual
INTERNATIONAL DAY event. Next up, Williamson
County Schools honors its top volunteers at the
SHINING
APPLE awards. And take a ride on a
LUXURY LIMO
LUNCH with the secretaries and bookkeepers at
Fairview Elementary and Westwood Elementary.
Some of the other stories
you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include
details involving an upcoming
COMMUNITY AWARENESS meeting to discuss gang
activity, the dates and times of each high school
GRADUATION CEREMONY and a
reminder for parents who wish to apply for
OUT OF ZONE approval.
Plus, we'll introduce you to the artist who transformed
Grassland Elementary School's cafeteria into a
TREE-HOUSE UTOPIA,
and explain why the son of a
FAMOUS AUTHOR made a visit to Scales Elementary in
Brentwood.
As always, we like to
recognize the achievements of Williamson County students and
staff. Some of the students making headlines this
month include a PRESIDENTIAL
SCHOLAR, two TN
HONORS program winners and four
SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS.
You'll also read about a third grade student who's joining
the FIGHT AGAINST ARTHRITIS,
and we'll explain why Heritage Elementary and Pinewood
Elementary are getting some
STATE RECOGNITION.
It has also been a good month
for WCS educators. More than 200 teachers received
tenure this year. Check out some of the photos at this
year's TENURE TEA.
Also, find out which Scales Elementary educator was recently
honored with the title of
OUTSTANDING TEACHER.
Be sure and
check out all the new faces in our
PHOTO GALLERY. Plus,
you'll find information on two upcoming performances in the
MUSIC/THEATRE section.
