Academic Excellence--National Merit Program

 

National Merit Semi-Finalists

The 16,000 semi-finalists were selected from the more than 1.4 million entrants in the National Merit Program. Students entered the competition by taking the 2006 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The semi-finalists represent less than 1% of each state’s high school seniors.

In addition to the 16,000 semi-finalists, the National Merit Program has recognized 34,000 Commended Students for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students place among the top 5% of the 1.4 million students entered in the National Merit Program.
