The Brentwood High School Green Team (outdoors and environmental club) needs your support for our 2009-2010 tree-planting initiative. We will be planting a number of new trees at BHS this fall, including a new oak to replace the lovely old one lost during the recent building expansion.
We also hope to establish a “grow-out” nursery to cultivate trees to plant at BHS and around the Brentwood community in years to come. Adopt a tree to be planted this fall or a sapling for our nursery!
Donate $5.00 or more and include your name and e-mail address, and we will send you e-mail updates on your tree’s progress and ultimate planting location. $50 purchases a mature tree ready for planting; $5 finances a sapling for the nursery; donations in any amount accepted.
Drop off donations in the BHS office c/o Ms. Sherman; in Ms. Sherman’s room (A-12); or with a Green Team student member.
Questions? Contact faculty sponsor Emily Sherman at emilys@wcs.edu or (615) 472-4221 x3673.

Mr. . Keidel has given his permission for Brentwood High School to participate in the English-Speaking Union’s 2010 National Shakespeare Contest. Students in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades study, memorize, and perform a “monologue” from a Shakespeare play. The winner of our school competition advances to the Regional Competition, held on Saturday March 6, 2010.
On April 24-27, 2010, the Regional winner receives, all expenses paid, a weekend of theater, workshops, and sightseeing in New York City for the National Competition, held on the stage at Lincoln Center. The National Competition winner receives a summer acting course at the British American Drama Academy (BADA) in Oxford, Awards of $1,000 and $500 go to the first and second place contestants.
Encourage students in this
competition--think about the challenge and opportunity this
contest offers. If you know of any student in the 9th
through the 12th grade at BHS who would enjoy this learning
experience, please talk to him or her about entering the
competition.
Students can receive as much help (coaching) as they want.
All the information can be found at www.esuus.org Click on National Shakespeare Competition on the home page.

Teen Attitudes Toward Smoking Linked to Likelihood of Drinking and Using Drugs
New research by Weill Cornell Medical
College researchers looks at the specific ways parents and peers
influence teenagers to smoke, drink and use marijuana in
combination. Among their findings: attitudes toward smoking
influenced teenagers' use of multiple drugs (smoking, drinking
and marijuana), and that this manifested itself differently in
boys and girls.
