| Language Arts: The language arts and reading students
will develop the reading and listening skills necessary for word
recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation,
and appreciation of print and non-print text.
BMS also has a program called Read 180. This class is
designed for students who struggle with reading and whose test
scores indicate intervention is needed.
Science:
In sixth grade science, students will learn earth and space
science, life science, and physical science. In life science
students will learn interactions between living things and their
environment. In earth and space, they will learn the
relationships between the Earth and its place in the universe.
And in physical science, students will investigate energy and its
uses.
Social Studies:
Sixth grade social studies centers on the Ancient Civilizations
of Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, and China. Then there is a shift to
Europe where students engage in the study of Ancient Greece
and Rome. From there, the period called the "Middle Ages"
serves as a connection between ancient and modern times. The
ideas during this period affect the arts, science, and the ways
people viewed the world and their place in it. Each of the
above studies includes economics, geography, governance/civics, and
history.
Math:
The math curriculum helps students develop the number and
operation sense needed to represent numbers and numerical
relationships verbally, symbolically, and graphically. They
also learn to compute fluently and reasonable estimates in problem
solving. Students will be placed in math classes using IAI
scores and TCAP scores. |
