Eighth Grade Studio 8 Art (Year Course)
Studio 8 Art is an
intensive, year-long studio experience which begins with
drawing, using Betty Edward’s Drawing On the Right Side of
the Brain.
Students then experience creative expression while strengthening
observational skills using a variety of media, including
painting, sculpting, printmaking, and graphic design.

Seventh Grade Art (9
Weeks)
In seventh grade art, students
delve into the mysteries of linear perspective, start their
first look at graphic arts, experiment with watercolor, pencil,
oil and regular pastels, and work with a variety of sculptural
media. Students
also begin serious critiques of art through different art
periods, not only describing what they see, but how the artists’
choices of media influence what the artist has expressed.

Sixth Grade Art (9 Weeks)
Art classes are built on sequences of understanding.
Students look at aesthetics:
why do artists approach subjects this way?
Students study art history:
what made Van Gogh see stars in such a special way and
why does Faith Ringgold use story quilts as a medium?
There are several studio art opportunities which allow
students to practice the fundamentals—drawing, painting and
sculpture—in a way that encourages organization, time
management, and personal expression.
