The main goal of Brentwood Middle School is to provide an enriched academic environment that meets the diverse needs of our student population.  In order to meet this goal, we provide sixth through eighth grade students with instruction in four core academic areas:  mathematics, science, language arts, and social studies.   Currently, eighth grade students may earn high school credit for Algebra I, Geometry, Spanish I, German, Latin, and French.  In order to meet the No Child Left Behind requirements in the area of technology, all eighth grade students will be required to take a  basic computer application skills tests.

For a specified period of time,, students experience instruction in the following Related Arts programs:  art, music, technology, computer technology, drama, leadership, and physical education.  All students may elect to take band in lieu of their related arts period.

Following the middle school model, teachers in all grade levels work in teaching teams to provide instruction to students.  This configuration allows for the blending of teachers of different subject areas who teach the same students.  The common planning time also allows for parent conferences with all core teachers at one time.  This teaming approach promotes the integration of curricula across content areas and fosters the development of projects that enhance students' intellectual development. Eighth grade follows a junior high model for instruction.

Brentwood Middle offers a variety of programs to support our diverse learner population.  Students with emotional disabilities and learning disabilities are offered individualized curriculum that has been identified to meet their specific needs.   This is accomplished by working with students in small groups or individually or by their placement in classes where success is assured.

For other learning challenged students, we offer full inclusion programs that keep diverse learners within the regular classroom grouping.  Finding the least restrictive, most effective environment is our priority for these students.  Classroom and resource teachers work together to prepare lessons that use multiple teaching techniques.  This ensures skill mastery by all students regardless of their academic learning disability.

Gifted and talented students are provided an array of activities that help them to accelerate their learning.  For example, students participate in projects that develop higher-level thinking.  These include programs such as the Model UN, Youth Legislature, the Geography Bee, and the Robotics team.  Students may be placed in honors English and/or math classes that address more advanced content or they may be given individualized or independent study programs.

The Brentwood Middle School Language Needs Team includes classroom teachers, a speech and language specialist, and an ESL specialist.  Working together this team integrates language needs' students into the regular classroom.

Brentwood Middle School has a positive attitude and willingness to accept every child.  It is our goal to assure to success of each and every student who enters our door.
