Teacher Recognitions
BMS eighth grade algebra and geometry teacher, Lois Coles,
recently attended a State Department of Education meeting and met Dr. Francis
"Skip" Fennell, the president of the National Council Teachers of Mathematics.
Mrs. Coles, who is also a president of the Middle Tennessee Math Teachers
Association, a mathematics curriculum specialist for Williamson County, and
president of the Tennessee Math Teacher's Association, listened as Dr. Francis
explained the new NCTM Focal Points.
Maggie Tucker, BMS Art Teacher, will present "Typography for
Teens: A Graphic Adventure" in March at the National Association of Art
Educators meeting. Ms. Tucker will be one a a select number of educators
from around the country presenting at the meeting, which hosts art educators
from the elementary through the college level. Her presentation will be
based on her experience teaching typography to year-long eighth grade art
students.
The 'Students and Friends of gail Mcdaniel Award' is
pleased to announce that Mrs. Maggie Tucker, art teacher at Brentwood
Middle, has been chosen as a 2006 grant award winner. Mrs. Tucker
plans to use the $500 grant to help her fund her efforts for attaining
National Board Certification in the early adolescent/young adult
category.
