BMS Dress Code

Please dress for success.  Clothing and accessories should not be distracting to either the wearer or those who must look at the wearer.  Clothing that is too revealing or suggestive causes too much of a distraction for other students.  Thus BMS has established a no skin and no underwear showing (anything that is worn under external clothing) policy. Brentwood Middle School students should be clean, neat and appropriately dressed every day.

  • Pants must be worn above the hips and fastened to remain in that position.  Pants cannot have writing across the seat.
  • Leggings are not considered pants and must be worn under regulation length garments.
  • Shorts, skirts or dresses must be no shorter than 5” from the floor when on one's knees.
  • Cut-off clothing articles with frayed edges or clothing with worn or torn holes are not allowed.
  • Hats, caps, scarves, skullies,  bandanas, sunglasses, and sweatbands are not to be worn in the building.
  • See-through clothing or tank tops (including those with spaghetti straps) and midriffs (all tops which bare any portion of the torso even when sitting) are not allowed.
  • There shall be no visible undergarments. (Straps are included)
  • Clothing may not be worn that have logos depicting cigarettes, liquor, sex, profanity, or double meaning or those that are deemed crude, vulgar,  or obscene are not allowed. Clothing demeaning of gender, race, or nationality are not allowed.
  • No accessory that could be harmful (such as dog collars, chains, safety, pins, rubber bands, etc.) can be worn in the building.

Teachers will refer students who violate the dress code to the main office and administrators will enforce the dress code policy.  The principal or his/her designee shall be the final judge to the compliance with the dress code.  Students that choose to wear inappropriate clothing will be given clothing to replace the inappropriate clothing or asked to call home for a change of clothes to be brought to school.  if new clothing is not provided, students will be asked to remain in the office.
