Mrs. Jeanne Smith is the school counselor for Crockett Elementary. She sets up and is a member of GEIT meetings. GEIT stands for Guided Education Intervention Team. GEIT is a group of educators who confer with parents about ways to help their child be challenged and successful in school.

The guidance program is designed to be preventive and developmental. Mrs. Smith teaches classroom guidance lessons which cover topics such as: study skills, decision making, self esteem, safe and health choices, conflict resolution, study skills, appreciation of diversity and career choices.

In addition to teaching students in the classroom, Mrs. Smith also conducts individual and small group counseling sessions.  Some of the topics covered are friendship skills, peer relations, decision making, responsibility, listening skill, school behavior, study skills, work habits, organization, motivation, anger management, stress reduction, divorce, death and sever illness. These groups usually meet for 30 minutes weekly for 6 to 8 weeks.

Mrs. Smith is responsible for the New Students Orientation, which welcomes new students and their families to Crockett. She also does the Boo-Hoo Breakfast, which is held for parents of kindergartners.  It is held on the first full day of kindergarten. Mrs. Smith heads the Red Ribbon Week. It encourages students to make safe and health choices. Mrs. Smith heads the Toy and Food Drive, which begins at the end of November. All collections are donated to Graceworks an organization, which helps needy families in Williamson County. Mrs. Smith is also the coordinator at Crockett for the TCAP Test (Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program.)

The Character Under Construction Program is designed to supplement the home environment and encourage virtues needed to live successfully as a member of a family, school, and community. Mrs. Smith promotes this program through guidance lessons that include one character trait each month.
