Mrs. Jeanne Smith is the school counselor for
Crockett Elementary. She sets up and is a member of
GEIT meetings. GEIT stands for Guided Education
Intervention Team. GEIT is a group of educators who
confer with parents about ways to help their child
be challenged and successful in school.
The guidance program is designed to be preventive
and developmental. Mrs. Smith teaches classroom
guidance lessons which cover topics such as: study
skills, decision making, self esteem, safe and
health choices, conflict resolution, study skills,
appreciation of diversity and career choices.
In addition to teaching students in the classroom,
Mrs. Smith also conducts individual and small group
counseling sessions. Some of the topics covered are
friendship skills, peer relations, decision making,
responsibility, listening skill, school behavior,
study skills, work habits, organization, motivation,
anger management, stress reduction, divorce, death
and sever illness. These groups usually meet for 30
minutes weekly for 6 to 8 weeks.
Mrs. Smith is responsible for the New Students
Orientation, which welcomes new students and their
families to Crockett. She also does the Boo-Hoo
Breakfast, which is held for parents of
kindergartners. It is held on the first full day of
kindergarten. Mrs. Smith heads the Red Ribbon Week.
It encourages students to make safe and health
choices. Mrs. Smith heads the Toy and Food Drive,
which begins at the end of November. All collections
are donated to Graceworks an organization, which
helps needy families in Williamson County. Mrs.
Smith is also the coordinator at Crockett for the
TCAP Test (Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment
Program.)
The Character Under Construction Program is designed
to supplement the home environment and encourage
virtues needed to live successfully as a member of a
family, school, and community. Mrs. Smith promotes
this program through guidance lessons that include
one character trait each month.
