August 21, 2007
Dear Chapman’s Retreat Families,
I
wanted to give you some information about our Read
across Tennessee program. This is a school wide
program that encourages all students to read.
We
will be kicking it off on August 31, 2007!
Your child will be bringing home a Read across
Tennessee log.
Each student will keep track of the minutes that
they read and return the completed logs to their
classroom teacher.
A
reading log is attached for you to print and use.
Reading Log for Grades K-1
Reading Log for Grades 2-5
Each teacher will turn in the Reading Logs to Mrs.
Stallings.
There will be a committee that keeps tracks of each
grade levels progress!
Each grade level will have a colored cheetah placed
on the Tennessee map in the cafeteria.
We
will move it so that students can see where they are
on the map – and challenge themselves to beat other
grade levels!!
The grade level that has the MOST number of hours
read for each stop will earn a popcorn party!
The overall grade level winner for the entire
program will win an ICE CREAM SUNDAE party at the
end of the year!
Prizes that can be earned for each stop include:
free game of bowling, free book from Barnes & Noble,
free dessert from McDonalds, and free kids meals
(Applebee’s/ Beef O’Brady’s)
We
will have 4 stops during the school year.
There will be 8 weeks between each stop.
Students must read a total of 16 hours (during
the 8 weeks) to earn the prize for that stop.
That equals 2 hours of reading a week!
The theme this year is animals.
