Room Parent Requirements

We appreciate that you are considering being a Room Parent for your child’s class this upcoming year. This list is meant to give you an idea of what is expected of a Room Parent. Do not be overwhelmed, this is a fun and rewarding experience!

Introduce Yourself

Your first duty as a Room Parent will be to introduce yourself to your teacher. Make sure they have your contact information so they can get in touch with you when they need to.

Cheetah Fest

You are a very important part of Cheetah Fest! You will be responsible for several areas regarding CheetahFest and they are as follows:

• You will need to sign up volunteers from your class to cover your class’s game/area during CheetahFest.
• You will also need to solicit donations of goods and/or money from your classroom parents to compile a themed basket for the Silent Auction. You will be able to choose the theme for your class’s basket at the Room Parent meeting on August 23^rd. A detailed list of your basket’s contents will need to be turned in with the basket for the bidders at CheetahFest to be able to look at when decided on whether to bid or not on your item.
• Finally, you will be in charge of getting 2 cakes and 24 cupcakes fixed for the Cake and Cupcake Walks for the night of CheetahFest. In the past, some Room Parents choose to take care of these themselves while others choose to get volunteers from the class to do them. The cakes and cupcakes will need to be dropped off on the morning of CheetahFest which is on Friday, September 21^st.

Basketball Concessions Volunteers

During HCRA basketball games our school runs a concession stand. This is an important fundraiser for our school and not just for basketball parents. Last year, we raised more than $2,000 from the concession stand that helped purchase some of the new technology that our kids are using this year in their classrooms! Each class will be required to have parents work the concession stand on one Saturday and possibly again during the tournament season. You will be required to obtain volunteers who will work during your classes allotted time. Remember to tell your parents that for each 30 minute slot that they work at the concession stand, their name will be placed in a drawing for a $100 gift certificate, $50 gift certificate and a $25 gift certificate at the end of the basketball season!

Teacher Appreciation Week

Your main responsibility regarding Teacher Appreciation is letting the parents know what activities are planned for the teachers.

Classroom Parties

Most classes hold a Fall, Holiday, Valentine’s and End of the Year party. You will work closely with your teacher in the beginning of the year to decide what parties they would like to have. Then you can find other parents within your class to head up these parties. This way everything doesn’t fall on you and it gives other parents that can’t be the lead Room Parent a chance to participate.

Please remember that you are not alone in this job! Please rely on your Volunteer Assistant to help when you are having problems or have questions regarding any of these things. We want this to be enjoyable and are here to help you!!!
