School History
Rich in history and tradition, Bethesda Elementary School is situated on a beautiful twenty acre campus in the hills of south Williamson County. The first school in Bethesda was an elementary school at the village crossroads that opened in the late 1800's. It was outgrown and a new school was built on donated land where the fire department now stands. That school burned and the community rebuilt in 1936 on the same site. (It had already become a 1-12 school in the early 1900's). That building was also outgrown and again became an elementary school in the fall of 1975, when the high school portion was moved to another site. In 1990, the present school was built and became a Pre-K-5 school. This modern facility serves over 700 students. Bethesda offers the friendly community atmosphere of a rural school while incorporating the latest and best teaching strategies. Bethesda Elementary is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Before/After School Care
Fun Company offers childcare services in the building starting at 6:30 am and after school until 6:00 pm. This stimulating program provides multiple activity and fun centers for its participants. For more information, contact Ms. Mary Pope, site director, at cell phone number 887-0063.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parents receive a progress report during each nine week grading period with Report Cards issued at the end of the nine weeks. Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled by each grade level during each semester of the school year and additional times as individual conferences are needed. Ongoing parent-teacher communications is encouraged.

Parent Support Organization
Bethesda Elementary has a very strong and dedicated P.T.O. organization. A new group of officers brings lots of new ideas to Bethesda this year. An important goal of the P.T.O. this year is to get parents involved and keep them informed on a weekly basis through the Bethesda PTO newsletter. Some of the many activities they sponsor are: Beginning of the Year Ice Cream Social, T-shirt sales, and Fall Fest. PTO also provides volunteers for the Boosterthon Fun Run. Many volunteers are at Bethesda everyday to work with students and to help teachers.

Special Programs
Bethesda has several clubs and programs in which children can participate. They include: 4-H, DARE, Destination Imagination, Art Club, Accelerated Reader, and School Chorus.

Library/Media Center
Our library collection is over 11,000 items and serves a rapidly increasing student population of pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Excellent and enthusiastic parent volunteers help our librarian and library assistant keep the many services to our students and teachers available. Some of our services include: scheduled and flex classes, storytelling for the primary grades, the annual book fair, video taping class programs, ordering, processing, and cataloging materials to support the school curriculum, Internet access and connection to encyclopedias and other reference sites via the Internet, a closed circuit television system for broadcasting videos and live feed throughout the school, and the Accelerated Reader computerized reading program for all grades.

Academics
We have several unique academic programs at our school. Those include Reading Renaissance, Developmental Practices, Horizontal & Vertical Curriculum Alignment, Mountain Math, Mountain Language, Every Day Math and Word Wisdom.

Guidance
Bethesda has a full time guidance counselor who serves as both a child advocate and leader of a comprehensive development program that serves all students. The counselors work with individuals, small groups and entire classrooms serving the needs of all students. The counselor coordinates school activities pertaining to the school program such as Red Ribbon Week, and Kids on the Block.

Special Education Services
Currently, Bethesda has 4.5 full time special education teachers, eight full time special education assistants and five full time teacher's assistants.

Fine Arts
Bethesda is proud to offer Physical Education, Music, Art, and Library to all students.
