School History
Chapman’s Retreat Elementary, serving
grades K-5, was established in 2003. The
doors were opened on August 11, for a full
day of school. The first year began with 361
students, 28 classroom teachers, 7 special area teachers, and 5 special
education teachers (including speech and gifted education). The staff,
faculty, parents, and community of Chapman’s
Retreat cooperatively work to fulfill the mission at
Chapman’s Retreat Elementary School .

Special Programs
Special programs offered at Chapman’s Retreat are: Destination
Imagination, Jump Rope Club and Chorus
Library/Media Center
The Library/Media Center is staffed by a full time library media
specialist and a library assistant. The Media Center is centrally
located within the school and houses the print and non-print collection
that supplements and enriches the academic curriculum. Computer
terminals provide access to the Internet, online encyclopedias, Follett
OPAC, etc. The Media Center continually promotes the enjoyment of
literature and the use of informational skills through various programs
and activities.
Guidance
Chapman’s Retreat Elementary has a full time counselor, Jennifer Morris
(grades 2-5) and half-time counselor, Stacy Landa (K-1). The Guidance
Program at Chapman’s Retreat Elementary School focuses on maintaining a
healthy life style through character building. Chapman’s Retreat
Elementary is part of the Williamson County Character Under Construction
Initiative, which emphasizes a character trait per school month.
The school counselor
also presents a developmental K-5 guidance program that is based on
Williamson County, State of Tennessee, and National Curriculum
Standards. The counselor sees each class K-5 on an alternating week
basis.
Opportunities are
provided for each grade level to have students meet with the counselor
in small groups, which focus on common needs or concerns (divorce,
death, social skills). In addition, individuals with private concerns
are free to visit the counselor.
Special Education
Services
Chapman’s Retreat services include four full-time resource teachers and
9 assistants, a full-time reading specialist, a speech and language
pathologist, gifted consultant, school psychologist, occupational
therapist, certified occupational therapist assistant, physical
therapist, physical therapist assistant, and a hearing teacher.
Fine Arts
Chapman’s Retreat has two full time teachers for physical education.
Chapman’s also has full time teachers for art and music.
Students attend art
classes once a week. The students are exposed to a wide variety of
different media, such as pastels, colored pencils, chalks, clay, water
colors, crayons, collage, and printing ink.
Chapman’s Retreat
Physical Education Department's focus in grades K-2 includes space
awareness, locomotive movements, rhythmic activities, sequences,
cooperative behavior, fitness concepts, and sportsmanship. Grades 3-5
focus on skill building, strategies for games and sports, dance and
rhythmic activities, healthy lifestyles, and sportsmanship.
The music program at
Chapman’s Retreat encompasses many aspects. Students learn about rhythm,
melody, harmony, form, texture, composers, music history, musical
styles, and musical theatre. They experience all of these through
singing, playing instruments, movement, listening, discussion, video
presentations and other technological resources.
Chapman’s Retreat has
a half-time Tech Coach who supports the teachers in helping to implement
the WCS Technology Curriculum into the classroom. The tech coach works
with individual teachers and students as well as groups to model and
guide using the hardware and software this school provides for its
students. Some of the technology that Chapman’s Retreat offers is the
use of Smartboards, Interwrite Pads, Projectors, computer lab, internet
based software (Nettrekker, Reading A-Z, Scott Foresman, etc.) and
county and school purchased software (Kidpix, Kidspiration, Inspiration,
Type to Learn, etc.).

King, Sam’s Club, Beef O’Brady’s, Cozymel’s, Thompson Station Grille,
McDonald’s, Stoney River, Honeybaked, Buca di Beppo, Sonic, My FPZ,
Southern Quality Homes, Wendy’s, Christopher Optical, Chili’s, Parents
Television Council, First Tennessee, Community South, Sysco, Limestone
Title and Escrow, Peanut Gallery, Mayor Leverette, Sunbelt, JT Fencing

Extra Curricular
Activities
Chapman’s Retreat offers 4th and 5th grade choir,
Destination Imagination Teams, and is exploring future opportunities for
students.
Site Based Management
Chapman’s Retreat is an Effective School involved in Site Based Decision
Making. Correlates and BLT members have been established and meet on a
regular basis.
