History
Our school was established in 1990 for the purpose of providing
children in kindergarten through fifth grade with a quality
education in a supportive learning environment. Our mission, at
Crockett Elementary, as facilitators of learning, is to challenge
students socially, emotionally, culturally, intellectually, and
physically in order for them to become contributing citizens in an
ever-changing society. We strive to educate children to master
academic skills as well as to develop their potential, recognize
their dignity and encourage positive self-esteem in order to promote
responsible citizens. When our school initially reached its
capacity, Edmondson Elementary School was split-off in 1995; Kenrose
Elementary School grew from us in 1999; and a new school, Sunset
Elementary School, opened in the Fall of 2005.
Site
Based
Management
Our school is site-managed and uses Building Leadership Team
composed of representative from each grade level, Specials teachers,
classified staff, and PTO representative.
Before/After School Care
Brentwood Family YMCA Fun Company offers childcare services in the
building starting at 7:00 am and after school until 6:00 PM. This
stimulating program provides multiple activity and fun centers for
its participants. For more information, contact Michelle Higgins at
the Brentwood YMCA at 373-0215.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parents receive a progress reports during each nine weeks grading
period with Report Cards issued at the end of the nine weeks.
Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled by each grade level during
each semester of the school year and additional times as individual
conferences are needed. Ongoing parent-teacher communications is
encouraged.
Parent Support Organization
Crockett Elementary has a very strong and dedicated PTO
organization. A new group of officers brings lots of new ideas to
Crockett this year. The Crockett PTO is very supportive of the
school in numerous ways – especially helping to fund part of the
Computer Lab assistant’s salary, providing additional computers to
the classrooms, and offering numerous hours of volunteer work around
the building. Many volunteers are at Crockett everyday to work with
students and to help teachers. The PTO has a link on the school’s
web site with lots of useful information.
Special Programs
Crockett has several clubs and programs in which children can
participate. They include: 4-H, DARE, Destination Imagination, BEAR
Clubs (Be Enthusiastic About Reading), WCES News broadcasts, Student
Safety Patrol, and Accelerated Reader.
Library/Media Center
Our library collection is over 10,000 items and serves a rapidly
increasing student population of Kindergarten through fifth grade.
Excellent and enthusiastic parent volunteers help our librarian and
library assistant keep the many services to our students and
teachers available. Some of our services include: scheduled and flex
classes, storytelling for the primary grades, the semi-annual book
fair, video taping class programs, ordering, processing, and
cataloging materials to support the school curriculum, Internet
access and connection to encyclopedias and other reference sites via
the Internet, a closed circuit television system for broadcasting
videos and live feed throughout the school, and the Accelerated
Reader and Accelerated Math programs for all grades.
Guidance
Crockett has one full time guidance counselor who serve as both a
child advocate and leader of a comprehensive development program
that serves all students. The counselors work with individuals,
small groups and entire classrooms serving the needs of all
students. The counselors coordinates school activities pertaining to
the school program such as DARE, Red Ribbon Week, Kindergarten “Boo
Hoo Breakfast,” Pastries for Parents, etc.
Student Support Services
Currently, Crockett has three full time special education teachers
and 8 full time teacher assistants. Our Student Support Services
team is a very strong and integral part of the educational program
for children with special needs. Initial screenings and
observations are coordinated through our guidance counselors, and
then referred to our psychologist if testing is deemed necessary.
Fine Arts
Crockett is proud to offer Physical Education, Music, Art, and
Library to all students.
