School History
Crockett Elementary School was established in 1990 for the purpose of providing children in kindergarten through fifth grade with a quality education in a supportive learning environment. The school’s mission as facilitators of learning is to challenge students socially, emotionally, culturally, intellectually, and physically in order for them to become contributing citizens in an ever-changing society. We strive to educate children to master academic skills as well as to develop their potential, recognize their dignity, and encourage positive self-esteem in order to nurture responsible citizens. When our school initially reached its capacity in 1995, Edmondson Elementary School was split-off. Once again we reached capacity and Kenrose Elementary School grew from us in 1999; and Sunset Elementary School, opened in the fall of 2005.

Site Based Management
Our school is site-managed and uses Building Leadership Team composed of representative from each grade level, Specials teachers, classified staff, and a PTO representative.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parents receive a progress report midway through each nine week grading period; report cards are then issued at the end of the nine weeks. Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled by each grade level during each semester of the school year and additional times as individual conferences are needed. Ongoing parent-teacher communications is encouraged.

Parent Support Organization
Crockett Elementary has a very strong and dedicated Parent-Teacher organization (PTO). A new group of officers bring a variety of new ideas and a wealth of leadership expertise to Crockett each year. The Crockett PTO is supportive of the school in numerous ways – especially funding the Computer Lab assistant’s salary, providing additional computers to the classrooms, and offering numerous hours of volunteer work around the building.  Numerous parents and grandparents volunteer at Crockett on a daily basis working directly with students and assisting teachers in a wide variety of functions. The PTO has a link on the school’s web site with information and contact numbers.

Special Programs
Crockett hosts a variety of clubs and programs for student participation: 4-H, DARE, Destination Imagination, WCES News broadcasts, and Student Safety Patrol.

Library/Media Center
Our library collection is over 20,000 items and serves a rapidly increasing student population of pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Excellent and enthusiastic parent volunteers help our librarian and library assistant in maintaining the many services provided for our students and teachers. These services include: scheduled and flex classes, storytelling for the primary grades, the semi-annual book fair, ordering, processing, and cataloging materials to support the school curriculum, Internet access and connection to encyclopedias and other reference sites via the Internet, a closed circuit television system for broadcasting videos with live feed throughout the school, the Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math, Accelerated Vocabulary, Math Facts in a Flash, STAR Reading, STAR Math, and STAR Early Literacy programs for all grades.

Technology
Each Classroom at Crockett is equipped with: a LCD Projector, an Interactive White Board, an Elmo, a teacher computer, several student computers, and a printer. Our computer lab is equipped with thirty computers, a LCD projector, an Interactive White Board, and an ELMO as well.

Guidance
Crockett has two full time guidance counselors who serves as both child advocates and leaders of a comprehensive development program for all students. The counselors work with individuals, small groups and entire classrooms serving the needs of all students. They also coordinate school activities pertaining to the school program such as DARE, Red Ribbon Week, Kindergarten “Boo-Hoo Breakfast,” and the annual Pastries for Parents.

Student Support Services
Currently, Crockett has three full time special education teachers and eleven full-time and one part-time para-professional.  Our Student Support Services team is a very strong and integral part of the educational program for children with special needs.  Initial screenings and observations are coordinated through our guidance counselors, and then referred to our psychologist if testing is deemed necessary by a general education intervention team.

Fine Arts
Crockett is proud to offer Physical Education, Music, Art, and Library to all students.

Physical Education

Physical Education class is so much more than recess or a time to play. For this reason, the Physical Education staff strives to build a solid foundation of skill development so that each student has the opportunity to feel comfortable and experience success within an active and healthy class environment. Our goal is to instill in our students an understanding of the importance of daily physical activity.

Special activities include:

  • Our two week “in-house field trip” skating unit for grades 1-5
  • A Dance-Dance Revolution – a great fitness program
  • An October “Fall Run for Fun” – students fun for fitness and kick off “signing up” for the Kind’s Music City Marathon which is held in April
  • Field Day – held in May, this is the final and favorite activity for students and volunteer parents

Partnerships
Crockett Elementary School strongly believes in partnerships between businesses and school. Each of these organizations assists in keeping our school an enjoyable place to learn by donating time, contributions, gifts and even professional development for our faculty and staff.
