School History
Sunset is currently one of Williamson County’s newest Elementary
schools. It currently houses Kindergarten through 5th
grade. Construction on the school began in the fall of 2004 and a
name was chosen in January of 2005. The mascot of the school was
chosen by vote. The suggested names were narrowed down to three
finalist: Stars, Stallions, and Lightening. The Sunset Stallions
was the elected mascot.
Special Programs
DARE is a special program(Drug Abuse Resistance Education) for fifth
grade. We also have Girl and Boy Scouts, YMCA Fun Company, before
and after school care, a Gifted and Talented program, an active PTO that
is involved, supportive, and was instrumental in the opening of our
school, Art for grades K-5, Music for grades K-5, Physical Education
twice a week for grades K-5.
Media Center
Our school’s Media Specialist is Ms. Laura Kleman. She is a key
figure in making our Media Center ready for the students of Sunset.
Students attend library classes every other week (average), but are
welcome for book check out or research any time. Students have access to
thousands of books on a wide variety of levels, eight fully networked
computers to use for catalog searches or complete research, a variety of
resource materials, and a choice of several magazines. The layout
of the media center is such that a students have the appropriate setting
for in-depth research, but also for relaxation while reading.
Parent volunteers have assisted, with their beautiful artwork, in making
the media center an attractive place for young children, older children,
and even adults to enter and enjoy.
Guidance
Sunset has two counselors who meet with students bi-monthly (average)
and with individuals and small groups as needed.
Fine Arts
Art instruction, Music , and Choral Music.
