School History
Winstead was built in 2002, named in honor of
neighboring historical Winstead Hill. Its doors were open to families in
September of 2002.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Conferences may be scheduled informally as teacher and parents feel the
need. Formal conferences are held in both the fall and spring of each
school year.
Parent Support Organization
Winstead has an active Parent Teacher Organization that is involved in
organizing parent volunteers, working with administrators and teachers
to establish a needs assessment, and financially supporting the
identified needs and services of the school. Parent volunteerism takes a
vital role in meeting the needs of the school.
Winstead has a very active PTO under the very capable leadership of
President Jenny Pietrzak. PTO organizes Winstead family community events
and raises funds to supply our students and teachers with necessary
materials, supplies, and equipment needed to enhance the instructional
program.
Library/Media Center
Our beautiful library is a most pleasant learning environment! Gifted by
parent artists, many volunteer hours, and a dedicated librarian, the
library encourages young readers! Staffed by a full-time library media
specialist and library assistant, the Winstead Library Media Center
consists of 9,622 books, 522 audio-visual titles, and subscriptions to
25 periodicals as well as the resources available for our usage on the
Williamson County Intranet page. We have 12 student computers with
Internet access for the use of the students and faculty. Winstead
students enjoy a schedule that allows them to visit the LMC for story
time, informational skills instruction and to check out books.
Guidance
Winstead has one full time and one .5 guidance counselors who serve our
students as guidance counselors. They lead classroom discussions for
topics such as self-esteem, character building, self-control,
decision-making, sharing and conflict management. Counselors are also
available for support to individual students and families.
Special Education Services
Services provided by our Student Support Services
include consultation, small-group assistance, and inclusion services.
Services are provided for gifted education, learning disabilities,
speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.
Fine Arts
The Art Program at Winstead is based on the philosophy of Discipline
Based Art Education. We focus on art production, art history,
aesthetics, and art criticism. The students are encouraged to use
critical thinking skills and their personal experiences to help them to
create art. The children learn more about themselves and the world
around them through these processes.
Physical Education
We believe that lifetime wellness is a vital
instructional tool for the optimal development of each child and adult.
We encourage building self-esteem, fortitude, enthusiasm, drive,
sportsmanship, and teamwork. We will actively utilize these properly,
learning organized sports skills, gymnastics, jumping rope, locomotives,
and many, many more activities!
