Irene Neilan, Fifth Grade

This is my 10th year at Edmondson, and my third year teaching 5th grade. I previously was in 4th grade for 7 years. It is great to be back teaching my favorite grade.

As most people can tell by my accent,  I was brought up in New London, CT. I received my BS in medical technology from the University of Rhode Island and spent about 5 years as a med tech in Wisconsin and Delaware. As I was raising my children, I decided to return to school and become certified to teach. I have been in the education field close to 20 years, and 5th grade has always been filled with students excited about learning, especially science.

My three children are all grown now and very successful. My daughter, Theresa, is a school psych here in Williamson County; Brian is a P.A. in cardiology in Mobile; and Michael along with his wife, Rachael, both earned their PhDs. in math and are doing research at LSU. My 3 grandchildren are Williamson County students. My husband, who is a chemistry professor at Vol State, and I are VERY proud of all their accomplishments.

In my spare time, my husband, Jim, and I love to travel. We recently spent two weeks in Europe and look forward to going back for further exploration. I also enjoy reading and all sorts of crafts as sewing, knitting, and crocheting.

I enjoy Edmondson and am happy to be part of your child’s life.
