    The Bear Den
    Information sheets on eight species of bears can be found here. Each one includes descriptions of the bear, its range, habitat, diet, social organization, and population status. Another section of the site will link you with all kinds of fascinating facts about bears-- their behavior, our view of bears, and what we've learned about them through research. A good resource for research projects!
     
     Bears.org 
     More good bear information!  In addition to facts about appearance, diet, and scientific names, this site also explains some of the myths surrounding bears to make sure we get our facts straight.  Links to other sites and lists of books and movies about bears are included, too.
     
    The Bumblebee Pages
    Bet you don't know as much as bumblebees as you think you do!  Here's the place to find all the facts!  Learn about their life cycle, body parts, how to tell if the buzzing bug you're looking at is a bumblebee or not, and more!
     
    Cats! Wild to Mild
    A wealth of information about both wild and domestic cats, their biology, history and behavior.  This site was developed by the Los Angeles Natural History Museum and will be a good resource for anyone doing a report on cats.  For a specific type of cat, choose "Cats A to Z" from the menu-- information includes pictures and links to additional resources on that animal.
     
    Children's Butterfly Site
    Everything you wanted to know about butterflies and moths! This site offers answers to frequently asked questions such as "what is the difference between butterflies and moths?", "Why are their wings so delicate?", and "How can I raise a caterpillar?". Also includes a gallery of photographs and links to other sites about butterflies.
     
    Defenders of Wildlife
    Defenders of Wildlife is an environmental organization dedicated to the protection of plants and wildlife. They are an excellent resource for information about endangered species, and what is currently being done to rescue them. If you are interested in wolves, look here for the latest updates on the Yellowstone wolves and newly-released Mexican Wolves. Their Endangered Species Learning Center (look for the link on the left side of the screen) offers fact sheets on several endangered animals-- perfect for reports!
     
    Electronic Zoo
    The Zoo incorporates the best animal resources on the Internet, including telnet sites, gopher databases, anonymous ftp sites, and other Web pages. Look here for excellent graphics, photos, and information on biology, veterinary medicine, environmental science, and ecology.
     
     
    In Search of Giant Squid
    Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water...
    This online exhibit explores and interprets the mystery, beauty and complexity of giant squids - the world's largest invertebrates. Based upon material presented in the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History's exhibit,"In Search of Giant Squids".
     

     

  • The Raptor Center
    Raptors are birds of prey, such as eagles, owls, hawks, etc.  The Raptor Center is an international medical center for birds of prey.  Their website provides you with some excellent fact sheets about different types of birds, as well as photographs, and even sound files.  You can even sneak a peek into the oldest established Peregrine Falcon nest in the midwest through their webcam.
     
    Wild Wolves
    Hear the call of the wild, find out how wolves are making a comeback, and discover the ancient connection between dogs and wolves at this PBS Nova Online Adventure site.
     
     
    ZOOM Birds
    Zoom Birds covers bird species, birding, fossils, bird extremes (biggest, fastest, etc.), the link between dinosaurs and birds, bird anatomy, backyard birding, bird as symbols, classification, evolution, jokes, classroom activities, and more-- all in a very colorful and fun way.
     
    ZOOM Sharks
    Explore the world of incredible sharks, discover the world of the great white shark, shark extremes (biggest, fastest, deadliest, etc.), rare shark fossils, learn about shark anatomy, classification, and evolution. View a geologic time-line, print-out information sheets, find classroom activities, and more. Zoom Sharks is updated as new shark information is discovered by scientists.
