Kindergarten Fairview Elementary School

Kindergarten is a year of discovery. For many of our students this is

their first organized learning situation. The teachers present many

various learning experiences and subjects to encourage the students

to explore the world around them.

• Kindergarten children learn about math "their way" through manipulatives.

• Kindergarteners discover science concepts through hands on

experiences.

• We have a "Letter of the Week" to introduce the alphabet and through

various approaches such as Slingerland and phonemic awareness prepare the

children for reading, writing, and spelling.

• Kindergarten children love to be read to and parents are encouraged to

"lap read" with their child. Recognition and awards are given on a monthly basis including Pizza Hut coupons.

• Thematic units on a variety of topics introduce the students to social studies. Community helpers, the Presidents, and Holidays are a few.

• Kindergarteners learn about the world around them through a variety of field trips throughout the year.
