WELCOME!!

 Dear FES Parents:

As unbelievable as it may seem, another summer has come and gone.  A new school year is on the horizon.  With the new year come new opportunities and new possibilities – for parents, for children and for teachers.  The PTO is very excited about all the growth we’ve accomplished and contributions we’ve made towards making FES a better place for our children.  Here’s a recap of some of the things we accomplished just in the last year:

·                    purchased a new Kiln for the school

·                    purchased 3 new computers for the computer lab

·                    provided TCAP packs for all students taking the TCAP

·                    sponsored the annual Hawk Walk which raised over $18,000

·                    purchased a new Promethean Proactive board

·                    successfully completed our first year of after school Enrichment Clubs

·                    provided transportation and organization for tutoring

·                    sponsored the annual Dinner and Auction which raised over $16,000

·                    provided matching funds for the addition of new surfacing for the playground

·                    provided funds for new guidance materials

·                    refurbished the school sign

·                    spruced up the Outdoor classroom

·                    purchased new Trex tables for the Outdoor classroom

·                    sponsored the school’s Destination Imagination teams

·                    purchased new equipment for the Parent/Teacher Workroom

·                    sponsored the annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon

These just represent the quantifiable things the PTO has provided.  The thing you can’t measure with numbers or graphs is the impact of all the Parent Participation we’ve had.  Your kids LOVE to see you at school.  It shows them you care about them and their future.  Your involvement on even the smallest level can mean a great deal.  On the following pages are some opportunities for you to assist the PTO.  Even if none of these things interest you, there are plenty of smaller things that we still need assistance with.  Your help could make all the difference.

Please take the time to read through all the attached information.  We would love to see each and every parent involved in some way, even if it’s just joining in the fun on our New Family Nights or tutoring one hour a week for your child’s teacher.

We look forward to a FUN year with new programs and new possibilities.  Won’t you join us?

Sincerely,

FES PTO

Richer than I, you can never be. I had a mother who read to me."

WHAT IS THE HAWK WALK?

The Hawk Walk is an annual event that the entire school participates in to raise money.  Each child is given a pledge sheet to collect pledge amounts for each lap around the Hawk Walk field that they can run in an hour.  Some folks prefer to donate a per lap amount, while others donate a flat amount regardless of laps run.

When the big day arrives it is fun to be had by all.  We encourage each student to run, walk, skip, hop, crawl or roll their way around the field.  Prizes are awarded for the most laps in each grade level.  There are also prizes for the most money collected and various tier prizes for different levels of money collected.  No one goes home a loser.  Everyone wins something.

Most of all the school and ultimately the children are the winners.  Every year the PTO donates a substantial sum of money directly to the school for things the budget didn’t allow for.  The rest of the money is spent on anything from continuing the Enrichment Program to providing new technology for the students and teachers.  It’s a definite win - - win situation.

If you would like to get involved in this FUN fundraiser there are lots of ways you can help.  Listed below are some of the positions that need to be filled or you can help count laps the day of the Hawk Walk or just show up to cheer on the kids.  Whatever level of involvement suits you WILL make a difference.

Enrichment Program

Your Fairview Elementary PTO is proud to announce that we are sponsoring a new after school Enrichment Program for grades 2 thru 5.  Based on a survey we sent out at the end of last school year, the Enrichment Program Committee selected the following clubs:

        Clubs announced later

We will be offering the clubs in 2 semesters (fall and spring) of 10 weeks each (one class per week), limiting each child to 1 or 2 clubs per semester.

In addition to the clubs, there will also be year round after school tutoring and homework help clubs (as in the past).  As part of our Enrichment Program sponsorship, we are providing a Williamson County School bus for students who have no alternative transportation.

We are very excited to start this program up!  Several teachers have expressed an interest in heading up clubs, and you can expect more information on the program very soon.

Kroger Cares Gift Cards:

Free Money for our school!

What is a Kroger Cares Card?

It’s a prepaid card with an initial value of $5 (think of it as a debit card).  Use them to buy anything at any Kroger Store nationwide.  The remaining balance on the card will be printed on your receipt. We can now use the cards at the new Kroger gas stations, too.

Why use your FES Kroger Cares Card?

Every time you “recharge” your card, Kroger credits the FES account 4% of the amount!  When our recharges total $5000, Kroger sends us a check for $200 (4%).  You shop just as usual; Kroger sends the school money!  The school earned nearly $3000 this past year, with fewer than 50 participants.  Think what we could earn if even half our parents used the cards!  Friends and relatives, even those in other states, can help too.  As long as the card comes from FES, we get credit each time the card is recharged.

How do I recharge my card?

Simply place your Kroger Cares Gift Card with your method of payment in front of your groceries as you go through the checkout.  Have the checkout clerk load your card with what you estimate your total will be.  (It’s alright if you’re off, any balance remaining on your card will be printed on your receipt and available for you to use the next time.  If you guess low, just pay the balance with your usual method of payment.)  You check out as usual, scanning your Kroger Cares card to pay for your groceries.

How much does it cost?

Nothing!  It only takes a moment of your time when you check out your groceries.

How do I get one?

Just fill in the information below, and send it in with $5 for each card.  Remember, the $5 is not a fee; it is money already on the prepaid card that you will be able to spend at Kroger.

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

Yes! I would like a Kroger Gift Card.

*** Your card must be linked to FES PTO each fall, so even if you signed up last year, we need the information again! ***

LionShop and Share is an easy, convenient way to raise money for the FES PTO.  Each time you shop at Food Lion and use your MVP card, a portion of your total grocery purchase will be donated to our school (we earned $500 last year).  Please help by linking (or re-linking) your MVP card by completing this form and returning it to the school, or by visiting the Food Lion web site and registering your card yourself at www.foodlion.com.  Questions?  Contact Judy Brown at 799-6012 or harleyquinn476@comcast.net.  Don’t forget to ask friends and relatives for their card number, too!  **Your card must be linked to FES PTO each fall, so even if you signed up last year, we need the information again!**

Any fundraiser done on a school day, all money belongs to the school—since this year the Hawk Walk was already in play before the law was passed we (PTO) were ok for being responsible for the money

Next year the money we collect from the Hawk Walk belongs to Fairview Elementary School, however the PTO will still be in charge of the Hawk Walk

All the logistics have not been worked out yet; there are still a lot of questions about things

Parents and staff can write the legislator of Williamson County to voice any opinions regarding the new law

Mrs. Tidwell mentioned that we would hopefully get to watch and learn ideas from other schools in the county this year and that would help us be more organized for the next fundraiser

Dawn Goree (PTO mother) talked about the Nestle Pure Life Water Bottle Labels School Program—with 579 children at FES we have the potential for 16,000 labels monthly

She talked about getting the community involved and one of the largest prizes that Nestle will give away is a $75,000.00 playground

For more information visit www.goplaylables.com

The labels do not have to be counted by any PTO or staff member, the company sends a self addressed envelope for the labels to be mailed back to them and they take care of all the work for the schools

Racheal thanked Dawn for the information and recommended that we take advantage of a simple way for FES to make extra money during the school year

Dawn Goree will take care of mailing in the labels for FES
