Fever

- The most accurate temperature is rectally or by mouth if child is old enough to hold in mouth properly.

- Fevers are a good thing.  They are the body’s way of “burning” the virus/bug

  out of the body.

- 100.5-101.9 (mild fever), 102.0 – 104.9 (moderate fever), 105+ (contact doctor)

- Medicating a fever is not necessary unless your child is too uncomfortable to

drink or sleep.  If they can do these two things, let the fever do its’ job.  If they can’t then use the appropriate dose of Tylenol (acetaminophen) every 4-6 hours,or Motrin/Advil (ibuprofen) every 6-8 hours.

Keep in mind.  These are just recommendations by your school nurse and are based

on guidelines used by many physicians.  You know your child best.  If you feel

medical care is necessary sooner, please contact your physician immediately!!!!!!!
