Statement for School Dress Codes
Fairview Elementary
School maintains a safe, positive environment where learning and character
development are emphasized. We work hard to encourage neatness,
cleanliness and self-respect among our Fairview family. In order to uphold
this safe, positive environment and minimize distractions from learning, we ask
that students, staff, and visitors follow our dress code.
Dress Code
Clothing should not
be a distraction. In order to maintain our positive learning environment,
the following guidelines are in place:
-
Spaghetti
straps, tank tops, bare midriffs, fishnet or see-through material are not
appropriate for school.
-
Sleeveless shirt
straps should be at least the width of a credit card.
-
Shorts, skirts
and dresses should reach at least halfway to the knee.
-
Pants, jeans,
shorts and slacks should fit at the waist or a belt should be worn.
-
Underwear should
not be visible.
-
Any apparel or
dress that advertises or promotes products or activities prohibited by law
or the Board of Education is not allowed. This included profanity,
illustrations, suggestive or unkind language.
-
Students
participate in either recess or gym each day. For this reason,
students should wear shoes that allow them to run and play easily and
safely. In order to fully participate in recess activities or PE,
students should not wear flip-flops, high heels, or other shoes that inhibit
physical activity. We have experienced problems with mulch piercing
crocs and going into the foot. Heelys are not appropriate footwear for
school. S
-
Jewelry -
dangling earrings are a potential safety hazard and should not be worn at
school.
-
No visible body
piercings, other than ears, are allowed.
-
Hairstyles and
colors should not be a distraction to others. Colors should be those
that occur naturally.
-
Make-up
(including eye make-up and lipstick) is not appropriate for elementary
school.
-
No head
coverings - hats, visors, or bandanas are allowed (exceptions - school
spirit hat day).
