44 teams competed ... outstanding competition

The #1 ranked high jumper in the nation (Eric Thompson, Herrin, IL), stunned the crowd by jumping 7'2 ...
not missing until he attempted 7'4.
For perspective, the 2005 NCAA National Champion, Jesse Williams of USC jumped 7'6 last June.

The #1 ranked triple jumper in the nation (Kali Jackson, Cahokia, IL) jumped 49'5.
For perspective, the 2005 NCAA National Champion, Rodrigo Mendes of BYU jumped 55'11 last June.

We took 13 athletes including 8 freshmen and sophomores.
In a 30-hour period, we traveled 500 miles,
stayed overnight in a hotel, and weathered a NINE-HOUR track meet.
All of this after a full day of school on Friday.

The highlights of the meet ...

On the negative side, we did not run well in the 4x4.
We did not warm-up properly, we were emotionally flat, and we did not compete.
Live and learn.

The 13 athletes that made the trip does not reflect our present roster of 78.
We have nearly 40 athletes involved in spring football that were not available to make the trip.
Our basketball players are taking some time off before joining the team this week or next week.
Our best thrower, Thomas Sensing, just finished his swimming season and will join us this week.
Our best distance runner, Kenny Snyder, is recovering from an achilles problem.

Our first outdoor meet will be at LaVergne on Friday, March 17.

Our next trip will be April 14/15, the Oak Ridge Relays.
