2005 Franklin Rebel Track and Field Pre-Season Preview

This year's Franklin Rebel track team has only a handful of returning lettermen but 40 solid athletes.  Our roster continues to grow.  

TOP PROSPECTS:  

John Hewitt ... 5'8 junior, ran on both 4x1 (42.71) and 4x4 (3:21.62) teams last year. John ran sub-50 splits in the 4x4.  He also competed in the state decathalon last year as a sophmore placing 10th and running 50.44 in the open 400.  His winter speed numbers were 4.47 (40), 10.29 (100 Fly), and 22.9 (200).  John started at WR and was "All-Region" for our 13-2 football team.  

Johnathon Haynes ... 6'0 junior, ran the 4x4 (3:21.62) last year.  He ran solid 50-point splits as a sophomore.  Johnathon's winter speed numbers were 4.67 (40), 11.18 (100 Fly), and 24.5 (200).  Johnathon shared quarterback duties for our 13-2 football team.

Alec Holler ... 6'3 senior, ran hurdles (15.1, 39.8) at Harrisburg H.S. (IL) last year. He placed 4th in the Class A 300 Intermediates and anchored a 43.0 4x1 team.  Alec was a state qualifier all three years for Harrisburg teams that placed 2nd, 2nd, and 3rd in Class A, Illinois.  Alec is the only Franklin athlete to start a game in football AND basketball.  Alec was recently named to the "District 11 All-Tournament Team".  The basketball Rebels finished 28-3.  

Juan Arboleda ... 5'10 senior, distance runner.  Juan grew up in Columbia, South America.  His times of 16:43 (3 miles), 10:20 (2 miles), 4:40 (mile) and 2:04 (800) make Juan our best distance option.  Juan had a great winter and hopes to run college track.  

Titus Hardemon ... 5'9 junior, did not compete last season. Titus was an "All-Region" defensive back for our 13-2 football team and will be the featured running back next season.  Titus had winter speed numbers of 4.51, 10.63, and 24.0.   

Trey Hardison ... 5'8 sophomore, has not competed in a high school sport.  Trey has great potential in the jumps, hurdles, and sprints.  He has already long jumped 21'3 and triple jumped 40'0 indoors.  His winter speed numbers were 4.44 (ranked #1), 10.70, and 25.2.    

Johnathon Carter ..... 5'8 freshman, was one of the top 8th graders in the area last year.His winter speed numbers were 4.46, 10.87, and 24.5.   

Derrian Waters ........ 5'9 200 pound senior, has never participated in track.  In football, Derrian was the "Region MVP" and was the MVP of the Franklin Rebels.  He was a star running back, quarterback,  and linebacker.  He will compete in football next year at Tennessee Tech.  Derrian's speed improved a great deal over the winter, posting 4.55, and 11.10. 

Shannon Derricks ... 6'1 200 pound senior, is running track for the first time.  In football, Shannon was All-Midstate as a WR and defensive back.  His winter speed numbers were 4.70, 11.36, and 25.7.   

Todd Campbell ... 6'0 sophomore, ran track last year in Kentucky.  Todd caught a touchdown pass in the football state championship game vs Riverdale.  He also was a key player on our undefeated JV basketball team (48 consecutive victories).  Todd reportedly ran 22.8 (200), 51.0 (400), and long jumped 20'0 as a freshmen.  

Thomas Sensing ... 6'2 190 pound junior, qualified for state last year in the discus.  Thomas threw in the 130-range as a sophomore, placing 7th in the state.  He was on the FHS swimming team this past winter.  

Tim Leach ... 5'10 240 pound senior, threw the shot 42 feet last year.  Tim was voted the top offensive lineman in our region last fall.  Leach wrestled heavyweight for the Franklin Rebel 2005 State Championship wrestling team.  

Elliot Brown ... 5'10 sophomore, ran only one race as a freshmen, a 5:10 mile and has already run 5:05 indoors.
