20 teams competed.

Franklin 119
Clarksville Kenwood 98
Murfreesboro Riverdale 95

This was the only time in the 40-year history of the Rotary Mid-State Meet that
the Franklin Rebels have taken home the trophy.

Perfect weather.  80 degrees, blue skies, no wind.

However, being in full sun from 9:30 AM until 6:30 PM makes for a long day.

Meet MVPs
Running events:  John Hewitt, Franklin Rebels
Field events: Thomas Sensing, Franklin Rebels

The drama ...   With only five events to go, Riverdale was
ahead by a seemingly insurmountable 29 points.
  Riverdale
is becoming the nemesis of Franklin High after beating us in
the football state championship game last December,
then beating us 70-0 in our spring football game last Tuesday.
They have an excellent track team with speed and depth.
They also have pole vaulters (outscoring us 15-0).

Anyway ...

Down 29 points with five events to go.

400 Meters:  We place 1st and 3rd despite a mistake by meet officials
that put Johnathon Haynes in the SLOW heat, lane ONE!
Haynes responded by running his best open-400 of his career.
We outscore Riverdale 16-1.

Down 14 points.

300 INT:  We expected a first place but Alec Holler faltered on the
homestretch due to a tightening hamstring, placing third.
However, we still outscore Riverdale 6-2.

Down 10 points.

800 Meters:  Antonio Murry runs a 54.5 first lap chasing
the favorite to win the 800 at state.  Antonio dies in the last 100 meters
but still manages a personal record 1:59.4 and a second place.
We outscore Riverdale 8-0.

Down 2 points.

200 Meters:  In one of the most bizarre situations I've ever
seen, there were TWO malfunctions of the automated timing
systems that forced two false starts in the fast heat.
Both times, the runners were not recalled until they had
run OVER 100 METERS.  John Hewitt and Todd Campbell were
totally worn out by 11 hours of sun, multiple events, and the two false starts.
Campbell was scheduled to run one more race, the 4x4.
Both athletes got their head right, ran 22.3 and 22.5 and placed first and second.
We outscore Riverdale 18-0 ... now we are ahead16 points.

4x4:  With Campbell worn out and Holler limping, we searched
for two substitutes.  Juan Arboleda who ran a 55.7 in a
JV meet (last Thursday) for his only attempt at the 400 was
one sub.  Jamarcus "Ritty-Rat" Lee was asked if he would be
willing to try the 4x4.  Jamarcus had run a 23.9 200 but had
never tried the 400.  When asked,
he responded "How far do I have to run?" ...
I said "One lap" ... he answered "I'll do it".   Jamarcus is very new to track.
Anyway, Jamarcus runs an opening leg of 53.8*,
Juan runs 54.1*, Haynes runs 52.7, Antonio 51.2*.  We win,
oustscoring Riverdale by 8 points.

We outscored Riverdale by 53 points in the last five events,
capping the greatest comeback that I've ever been a part of.

It's been a long process, but we are now a team.

Trey Hardison had a good day, jumping 20'7 and 6'0.
He also ran a good 100 Meters and lead-off our ill-fated 4x1.

In the 4x1, we were in the lead after the 2nd exchange but John Hewitt
popped the baton out of his hand while trying to re-position it ...
zero points in one of our best events.

The sky is the limit for Antonio Murry.

We discovered anther future star today in Jamarcus Lee.

Wednesday we travel to the finest high school track facility
I've seen, Montgomery Bell Academy.  Father Ryan will also be there.

The Region meet will be held at Clarksville Rossview.
Field Events and the final of the 3200, Tuesday, May 17
Prelims of Running Events, Wednesday, May 18

Finals of Running Events, Friday, May 20
