We scored a disappointing 17 points and placed 15th.

Our only PR was Todd Campbell in the 200.

It seemed that the State Meet was a continuation of the Region Meet that
ended bad for us one week earlier.
Last week, Antonio Murry and our 4x4 team failed to qualify
despite expecting to win both races.

What if we could have performed with our PRs at the state meet?

Our state performance reminds me of talented teams that I coached in
1994 and 1998 that had GREAT seasons but finished poorly.
We  won State Championships in 1995 and 1999.

Congrats to John Hewitt who was invited to run at the Golden West Invitational in California.

After 23 years in Illinois, it is hard for me not to compare the TSSAA State Meet to the IHSA State Meet ...
Only three events in TN produced performances that would have won in Class AA Illinois.
Simeon Harris of Cordova (Memphis) ran 36.60 in the 300 INT.
Cordova ran 3:16.99 in the 4x4.
Andrew Bumbalough of Brentwood Academy ran 4:05.75 in the 1600.
The Class A (small school) champions in Illinois would have won nine of the 18 events in TN.

There is no doubt in my mind that our athletes in Tennessee are just as good as those in Illinois.

I am proud of our year.
We ended the regular season 89-0 against Tennessee teams.
We finished a disappointing 3rd in our Region and 15th in the State.
We return almost everyone and we have our sights set on the big trophy in 2006.

Finally ... I learned this morning that a former athlete of mine,
Blake Boma of Monmouth College, won the D-3 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in the 400 INT.
Blake's story is a triumph of the spirit.
