AP Parents and Students:

Please read this letter in its entirety. There are some very important details that are oftentimes overlooked, which creates confusion. As a school, we are striving to have one hundred percent participation on the part of AP students in taking the exams at the end of the year. Please continue to encourage your student to have regular study habits and regular attendance in order to strengthen his/her academic performance.

Pertinent AP testing information will continue to be mailed directly to AP parents and posted on the school’s website.  Students will also be reminded of AP deadlines and procedures throughout the school year by way of daily announcements, phone calls home and the teachers of these courses. For those students who are also taking IB exams, remember, the College Board is no longer charging an additional fee for alternate exam testing for IB conflicts.

Payment Procedures are as follows:

All payments shall be given to the bookkeeper in the front office. The entire amount may be paid by November 21^st. For those who find a payment plan more feasible, the payment plan is outlined below:

• First payment due November 21, 2008
• Second and final payment due March 6, 2009

Payment Amount

• Payment in Full—$86 per test
• Payment Plan Option—$43 per test (by each due date)

Paying by check

• If a student is paying by check, the check should be made payable to Franklin High School.
• The name of the student whose exams are being paid for should be legibly written at the top of the check.
• In the FOR section of the check, the specific name of the AP test(s) to be taken should be listed.  For example, denote which AP English exam is to be ordered, English Language or English Literature.

Cash payments

• Each student should make sure that he/she receives a receipt for the cash payment.
• Each student should make sure that the receipt has the correct AP test names listed.

The PLAN
For 10^th Graders Only 

The PLAN is the pre-ACT (American College Test).  The ACT is one of the two most widely accepted college entrance exams.  It helps students determine how they would perform on the actual test.  It tells the students how many and what types of questions they responded to correctly and incorrectly.  It also tells the students what type of career might be good for them, strictly based on the kinds of skills your child exhibited on the test. 

 Williamson County Schools pays for each student to take the PLAN; therefore, it is free of charge to students.  The PLAN will be offered on October 15, 2008.  Make up day for the PLAN is October 21.

The PSAT

For 10^th and 11^th Graders

The PSAT is the pre-SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test).  The SAT is one of the two most widely accepted college entrance exams.  It helps students determine how they would perform on the actual test.  It tells the students how many and what types of questions they responded to correctly and incorrectly.  The PSAT also qualifies students for National Merit status during the 11^th grade year if a student meets certain requirements.  For more information, log-on at www.collegeboard.com/psat. 

The county does not pay for this test.  Thus, the cost of the test is $15.  Checks are accepted for payment.  Please make the check out to Franklin High School, with the student name plainly printed in the FOR section of the check.  The PSAT will be offered on October 15, 2008. 

For your information….

Tenth graders who take the PSAT on October 15th will have the opportunity to take the PLAN on October 21.
