Nashville Scholarships:  free service that covers the greater Nashville area with over 150 local scholarship opportunities with various values.  Apply online @ www.nashvillescholarships.com.  Deadlines:  Varied.

 

National Wild Turkey Federation Conservation Scholarships:  $250 locally to $10,000 nationally; 3.0 GPA; must be a current member of the National Wild Turkey Federation Xtreme JAKES program.  Deadline:  January 10th.

 

Middle Tennessee Nursery Association Scholarship:  two $1500 awards statewide; student must enroll in and major in a recognized horticulture program in college (i.e.landscape design, golf course management, etc.).  Deadline:  January 15th.

 

Nashville Area Alumnae Panhellenic Scholarship:  six $1,000 to senior women from 5 area counties.  Criteria include grades, activities and community service.

Deadline:  January 30th.

 

Suntrust Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes:  $1,000 awarded once every two weeks, from October – May.  Free to enter and eligibility is not based on GPA or financial need.  Apply online @ offtocollege.info. 

Army ROTC Scholarship:  4, 3 and 2-year full-tuition scholarships; requirements explained in brochure available in the counseling center; deadline not stated.

Tennessee Society DAR Scholarship:  $2,500; essay and resume required.  Deadline:  January 15th.

  

DAR Rodgers/Davies Scholarship:  $750 to one student in the state; essay, narrative and resume required.  Deadline:  January 15th.

Elks Lodge Nursing Scholarships:  4 awards of $2500 each year and 20 awards of $2,000 each year in the state of TN; portfolio required.  Application available @ www.tnelks.orgDeadline:  January 15th.

ARCHIVED SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Will to Win Scholarship:  $5,000 to two students nationwide who deal with asthma on a regular basis and have achieved a level of excellence in either performing arts, community service, athletics, visual arts or science; 3.5 GPA.  Apply online @ www.schering-ploughwilltowin.com.   Deadline:  August 31st.

  • Morehead-Cain Scholarship @ UNC Chapel Hill: nominee must be in top 10 percent of senior class;  selection criteria emphasizes leadership, scholarship, moral force of character and physical vigor. FHS can nominate only one student.  Deadline:  September 22nd.

  • Wendy’s High School Heisman:  no monetary value; an award is given to both a male and female athlete who have an overall “B” average and show strong citizenship; this is a nationwide selection.  Deadline:  October 1st.

  • Danforth Scholars Program @ Washington University in St. Louis:  full or partial tuition; criteria include academic excellence, service and leadership, strong moral character and commitment to community.  Requires counselor nomination.  Deadline:  October 1st.

  • Emory Scholars Program @ Emory University:  2/3 tuition to full tuition; FHS is allowed to nominate only 4 students, so, if interested, see your counselor asap.  To learn more:  www.emory.edu/scholarsprogram.  Deadline:  October 10th.

  • Jefferson Scholars @ University of Virginia:  full tuition renewable over 4 years; FHS is allowed to nominate only one student, so if interested, see your counselor asap.  Deadline:  October 20th

  • Horatio Alger Scholarship:  5 $5,000 will be awarded in Tennessee; 2.0 GPA, involvement in school and community activities and must have critical financial need.  Apply online only @ www.horatioalger.com/scholarshipsDeadline:  October 30th.

  • Ron Brown Scholar Program:  $10,000 annually for 4 years to African American students who excel academically, show exceptional leadership and impact the community.  Essay and resume required.  Deadline:  Nov. 1st.

  • Syracuse University Full-Ride Scholarship: 10 full scholarships are available for African American men and women interested in a five year degree in architecture.  Contact:  Mark Robbins, Dean, School of Architecture, (315) 443-2255 .  Email:robbism@syr.edu.

  • Toyota Community Scholars Program:  100 renewable scholarships nationwide valued  @ $10,000 or $20,000 payable over four years; 3.0+ GPA, leadership, with most emphasis on community service. FHS is allowed to nominate only one student, so if you are interested, see your counselor asap.  Deadline:  November 14th.

  • Florida A & M Scholarship for African American Women: $4,000-$10,000 for those women majoring in computer technology. Contact Dr. Jason Black, at the school, for more information:  jblack@cis.famu.edu.

  • Various Tennessee Public Universities:  Process for applying for scholarships varies from university to university.  Best source for information is online under “Financial Aid” for each university as scholarships are awarded through the financial aid office, not the admissions office.  Be careful of deadlines; they all vary.  Here are a few brief facts: 

    • UT Knoxville:  check website  @ www.utk.edu.  Click on financial aid.
    • UT Chattanooga:  check website @ www.utc.edu.  Click on financial aid.
    • UT Martin:  when you apply you are automatically considered for all scholarships.
    • MTSU:  check website @ www.mtsu.edu.  Click on financial aid.
    • TSU:  check website @ www.tnstate.edu.  Click on financial aid.
    • University of Memphis:  check website @ www.memphis.edu.  Click on financial aid.
  • AXA Foundation/U.S. News and World Report Scholarship:  $10,000 + to 52 students nationwide; well-rounded students, committed to making a difference, having demonstrated achievement at a job, sport or extracurricular activity.  Apply online @ www.axa-achievement.com.  Deadline:  December 15th.
  • Scarlett Family Foundation Scholarship Program:  2.5+ GPA; $2,500 renewable minimum award amount; student must be planning on pursuing a career in business or has demonstrated entrepreneurial interests or leadership.  Apply online@ www.scarlettfoundation.org.   Deadline:  December 15th.
  • Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship:  500 scholarships will be awarded nationwide, and several $1,000 locally; criteria include community service, leadership and financial need; essay required.  Deadline:  December 31st.
