"[Anchor papers] are papers chosen to typify the
characteristics of a particular score point on the scoring rubric. The
anchor papers are guides that set the standard for the current year's
scoring and represent the range of responses within each score point" ("Frequently...").
These papers are examples of TCAP anchor papers. Read them to
evaluate your own style. |
| Persuasive Writing Rubric |
For TCAP, the state of Tennessee uses a holistic writing
rubric. "A scoring rubric is a set of scoring criteria used to
measure performance levels. Each score is defined by descriptors or
characteristics" ("Frequently...").
"The Writing Assessment is scored holistically. Holistic scoring goes
beyond mechanical correctness to focus on the overall impact of the
writing. It measures the effectiveness of the communication. Trained
readers evaluate the student's essay using the criteria of the scoring
rubric and anchor papers. Readers are trained not to focus on any one
aspect of the writing, but to look at the entire essay." ("Frequently...").
There are two rubrics listed in the link to the left. The first
is the TCAP rubric. The second is a rubric that breaks down the
different traits of writing. |
