Persuasive Writing

http://www.state.tn.us/education/assessment/tswritinggr11.shtml "[Anchor papers] are papers chosen to typify the characteristics of a particular score point on the scoring rubric. The anchor papers are guides that set the standard for the current year's scoring and represent the range of responses within each score point" ("Frequently...").  These papers are examples of TCAP anchor papers.  Read them to evaluate your own style.
Persuasive Writing Rubric For TCAP, the state of Tennessee uses a holistic writing rubric.  "A scoring rubric is a set of scoring criteria used to measure performance levels. Each score is defined by descriptors or characteristics"  ("Frequently...").

"The Writing Assessment is scored holistically. Holistic scoring goes beyond mechanical correctness to focus on the overall impact of the writing. It measures the effectiveness of the communication. Trained readers evaluate the student's essay using the criteria of the scoring rubric and anchor papers. Readers are trained not to focus on any one aspect of the writing, but to look at the entire essay." ("Frequently...").

There are two rubrics listed in the link to the left.  The first is the TCAP rubric.  The second is a rubric that breaks down the different traits of writing.

ACT Persuasive Writing ACT has an optional writing section.  A student should check with the university to which he or she wishes to apply to see if the writing is required.

The ACT site lists examples of writing, suggestions for persuasive writing, and the scoring rubric standards.

SAT Persuasive Writing The SAT has a required writing section.  As described on their site, the writing portion measures the reader's ability to "develop a point of view on an issue presented in an excerpt, support a point of view using reasoning and examples from reading, studies, experience, or observations, and  follow the conventions of standard written English"

The SAT site lists examples of writing, suggestions for persuasive writing, and the scoring rubric standards.

FHS Student Examples These are student examples from FHS that have been evaluated.
