Southern Author Presentation
English III
We live in an incredibly rich literary region – the
south. Even more impressive is the fact that one could make a respectable
argument that Tennessee is one the richest if not the richest literary states in
America. Because we live in such an opulent literary region, we are going to
spend some time exploring that region in an effort to better relate to our land
and culture.
The purpose of the first task: To learn more about
southern authors; to further develop public speaking skills; to develop
presentation skills.
The first task: Choose an author who is associated
with the South (preferably an author from Tennessee) and research that author.
Read works by the author. Learn about their life. Decide why they are important.
After you have researched the author, you will
prepare a presentation of less than five minutes to tell the class about that
author. Your presentation must contain the following:
A one-page handout (may be front and back)
to provide the class that details the important information about the
author.
An electronic visual to accentuate and
compliment the presentation. The visual may be completed in PowerPoint,
Movie Maker, or any other comparable media. Your visual should be easily
accessible from the computer while the teacher is logged on (saved to
your Gaggle account, saved to your user drive, saved to a disk). If you
want to check to see if your visual works, you should come after school
on the day of your presentation.
A practiced and insightful oral presentation
of less than five minutes to the class. Mr. Womack is very familiar with
some of these authors. He is mildly familiar with others. There are a
few about which he knows very little. Your job is to enlighten the class
(including Mr. Womack) in the time you are given.
Three multiple choice test questions that
are e-mailed to Mr. Womack before your presentation.
A detailed bibliography in MLA style citing
your sources. You are restricted from using Wikipedia.
You may choose from the following authors. If you
have another author you might wish to research, you should check with Mr.
Womack.
