LIGHTS, SOUND AND AIR. . . .AND ANYTHING YOU NEED MIGHT NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HOW TO USE THE FHS AUDITORIUM.

Shirley Sweitzer

LIGHTS

  • General Lighting can be switched on in the back of the auditorium as well as from the right side of the stage.  These lights illuminate the seating area in the auditorium.

  • Emergency lighting is the white light switch in the back of the auditorium. It takes approximately 15 minutes to get them fully illuminated

  • Work lights (9 incandescent lights) are located across the ceiling of the stage.  They can only be turned on at the switch located next to the stage right exit.

  • Stage Lights (the lights that effectively illuminate the stage for a production or a program being held in the auditorium.) Controls located in the tech booth at the back of the auditorium.

SOUND

  • The sound equipment is located in three places:

o       Amplifiers on stage right (locked box) make sure the plug is in place.

o       Microphone outlets located across the front of the stage

o       Control box and preamps are located in the tech booth at the back of the auditorium.

o       Microphones, cords, and stand are locked in my office.  (Let me know your needs and I will leave this equipment in the tech booth for your event.

AIR

  • There are three thermostats located in the auditorium

o       Near the EXIT door down right in the auditorium

o       Near the EXIT door down left in the auditorium

o       On Stage Right

OPERATING THE STAGE LIGHTS

  • Open the door to the control room (located at the back of the auditorium)

  • Turn on the overhead light (located to the right of the door)

  • Open the lift the locking window

  • Locate the control button on the back of the light board (right hand side in the back)

The switch is a toggle type.

  • If the board has power, the board will light red.

  • Look at the sliders marked “X” and “Y” They control the two panels of sliders to the left of the board.  Make sure either the “X”  or “Y” which ever bank of sliders you are going to use manually is set on “10”

  • Once this is done slide some or all of the sliders on the X or Y panels up to 10

  • Slide the Grand Master (located to the far right of the board) up to 10.

  • You will have lights!!!

  • If the lights aren’t on… review the above directions.

  • Since you are new at the board don’t try to do any programming (that is at least a 2 hour session)  Operating the board manually will accomplish all your needs.

TURNING LIGHTS OFF AFTER USE

  • Bring all the sliders down to “0”

  • Bring the Grand Master down to “0”

  • Turn off switch on the back of the board

  • Pull down and lock the window

  • Turn off the over head lights

  • Make sure the door is locked

OPERATING THE SOUND EQUIPMENT

  • Procure the equipment you need from the Theatre Arts classroom

  • Check the amp box on the side of the stage to make sure it is plugged in.

  • Plug in the microphone and cable into the outlet located on the front of the stage apron

  • Remember the outlet you are using ( SR # 12 CS #13   SL#14)

  • Go to the tech booth and turn on the light as well as open the  locking window

  • Press the large RED toggle button located on the upper right side of the big black box

  • Next turn the SILVER TOGGLE located to the left of the big black box to the ON position

  • The board now has power.

  • Locate the button the coincides with the outlet your mic is in.

  • Press it on (The Red light will go out)

  • Locate the slider below the mic number at slide it all the way up

  • Locate the slider to the far right of the board marked GAS.  Turn this about half way up and then either send some one to check the mic volume.

  • If you need more volume,  just add more gas and check again till your volume is adequate

  • If you need the CD player or tape deck make sure they are on and just follow the above procedure for the microphones, except turn on the control button marked “CD” or “TAPE” add the slider up and turn on the GAS.

TURNING OFF THE SOUND

  • Turn down the GAS

  • Turn down the slider on your corresponding mic outlet

  • Turn the button above the slider to mute.

  •  IMPORTANT REVERSE THE ORDER OF THE NEXT TWO STEPS FROM TURNING ON THE SOUND

  • TURN SILVER TOGGLE TO OFF

  • TURN RED TOGGLE TO OFF

GETTING THE AIR TO TURN ON

Sometimes during an evening event, the air just stops.  The school is on a regulated schedule and if you know in advance, you can call the Central Office and tell them to let the air stay on for your needs.  I do this during a production because we are too busy to keep over-riding the unit.  However, for any time you need the auditorium for a few hours after 3PM, you can get air all by yourself!!

  • Next to the thermostat located on Stage Right is a black override button.

  • Press it in for a count of 6 or 8 then release.

  • The air will come on for approximately 3 hours

  • IMPORTANT- IF THE THERMOSTAT IS LIT DO NOT ATTEMPT THE OVERRIDE

IT WILL NOT WORK.  THE OVERRIDE  ONLY WORKS WHEN THE THERMOSTAT IS OFF.
