Focus Day

9 November 2005

There are several goals for professional development this year.  The first goal is to make it meaningful, useful, and enjoyable.  There have been professional development days that seem to have been planned by leaders of the Spanish Inquisition.  Hopefully we can move in a new direction at FHS.  Your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions have been considered and much will be implemented.

A second goal of professional development is to provide learning opportunities and tools to faculty that can positively impact student learning.  To that end, the faculty suggestions that were made during the beginning of school sessions and at other times have been considered.

A third goal of professional development is to establish, enhance, and enrich relationships at FHS so that the faculty and staff may grow exponentially.  There is a long way to go to reach our goal and many resources that are needed, but we are taking steps in the right direction.  As the school in the county with the largest faculty we have much expertise on our own staff.  We will be utilizing that expertise to help each other.

The sessions for the November 9 Focus Day have taken into account the needs and desires of most of the faculty and a WCS goal. At FHS, a desire has been expressed for smaller and more focused sessions. So, we will be meeting in small group sessions for more focus and clarity.  Recognizing that teachers have different needs, we are also providing choices by utilizing the expertise of our own staff at FHS. A goal of the county is to improve technology savvy-ness so that student learning might be enhanced.  Therefore, all of the 9 November sessions will revolve around technology in some way.  Some sessions will also allow time to implement the ideas that are learned.

Since there is a limited number of space available for each session, we will be signing-up before 9 November so that one session will not be overfilled and so instructors may prepare the proper amount of material.  If there is a need for a session that is not mentioned, please suggest it to me.
