Materials and Supplies

3-ring notebook

15 tab dividers for notebook

2 red pens-place in pencil pouch

1 pack Post-its-place in pencil pouch

2 Highlighters-place in pencil pouch

Pencils-in pencil pouch

Wide-rule notebook paper

1 pack of 12 Colored pencils-place in pencil pouch

Individual pencil sharpener with casing-place in pencil pouch

Everyday, please bring the following to class:

Notebook

Loaded pencil pouch

DEAR book (current outside reading book)

For other materials, check the white board outside your teacher’s door

Rules, Procedures and Expectations

1.      Follow all school rules.

2.     Enter the classroom quietly.

a.     Sharpen pencils

b.     Write in agenda

c.      Begin entrance activity

d.     Read if you finish entrance activity

3.     Completed Reading Response Journals are due every Friday unless specified by teacher

4.     Late homework will result in responsibility point deduction (see below)

5.      Behavioral issues will result in a check.  Three checks will equal a lunch detention.  Checks will start over each week.  For more severe issues, office referrals will be given.

Responsibility Point Deductions

~Late Work-2 points

~Not being prepared for class-2 points

~Reading Response Journal will be worth a maximum of 10 points

Tardies/Gum

Gum   Any student chewing gum will receive a lunch detention. 

Tardies.  1st period tardies will be handled in the office. Students must be sent to the office and have a note from the office when they are late to school.

2nd – 7th period.   Students will be allowed 2 unex tardies with no consequence.  3rd and 4th tardies will be a lunch detention.  5th and 6th tardies will be 2 lunch detentions.  This starts over each nine weeks. 

Make-Up/Retake Policies

~Students have only one day to turn in incomplete work for everyday that they are absent before the assignment will be marked as late and responsibility points are deducted.

~Students make re-take/redo any content grade within the current grading period except for the last week of the grading period.  The retake time will be during a set remediation/focus time.  The students must come to the teacher and ask to retake/redo.

 

 

6th Grade Language Arts Targets / 1st Nine Weeks

 

Student’s first nine week grade will be based on evidence that they know or are able to do the following:

Reading:

·         Recognize the purpose of the text format

·         Determine authors purpose for writing a selection ( inform, persuade, entertain, or to share emotions

·         Locate and verify information to support predictions, ideas, and conclusions

·         Identify stated or implied cause and effect

·         Evaluate text for fact and opinion

·         Select question to clarify thinking

·         Identify various genres (fiction, nonfiction, fantasy, folk tale etc.)

 

Writing:

·         Write a diary or journal entry in narrative mode

·         Generate focus and organize ideas through brainstorming, mapping, or webbing

 

Grammar:

·         Identify types of sentences ( imperative, declarative, interrogative, and exclamatory)

·         Distinguish a sentence from a sentence fragment

·         Identify and define a common and proper noun

·         Select singular or plural nouns from context

·         Identify possessive nouns

·         Use the correct spelling of plural and possessive nouns

·         Identify and use the different types of verbs (main verb, action verb, linking verb, helping, and verb phrase)

·         Identify and  use simple and compound subjects

·         Identify and use simple and compound predicates (verbs)

·         Demonstrate the use of capital letter and punctuation correctly in a sentence

Vocabulary:
