7th Grade Course 2 Math
Second Nine Weeks

The students’ second nine weeks grade will be based on evidence that they are able to master the following learning targets:
 

Unit III  Number and Operations Utilizing Integer and Algebraic Concepts -  20% of grade

1.     Extend understandings of adding, multiplying and dividing integer through problem solving strategies.

2.     Solve contextual problems that involve operations with integers.

3.     Solve one-step equations involving integers.

4.     Represent mathematical statements and real-world situations using symbols.

5.     Demonstrate an understanding of different uses of variables.

6.     Translate one-variable verbal and written expressions into algebraic expressions.

7.     Evaluate algebraic expressions for a given value of up to two variables.

8.     Solve one step linear equations.

9.     Solve real world problems involving one step linear equations

10.  Identify whole numbers that satisfy a given one variable linear inequality.

 

Unit IV Math Language , Symbols and Problem Solving including TCAP Review -  20% of grade

Each content unit will include activities related to math language, symbols and problem solving skills. In addition, each unit will include TCAP review  problems. Grades for these activities will be reflected in this category.

 

Unit V Responsibility -  20% of Grade

Grades in this category include but are not limited to : coming to class on time with all required materials, unit notebook check, classroom participation, entrance activities, and could include other assignments as designated by the teacher.

 

Unit VI  Rational and Real Numbers  -  20% of grade

1.     Compute efficiently and accurately with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

2.     Represent numbers using a variety of equivalent forms, ( i.e mixed numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, and integers.

3.     Compare rational numbers using the appropriate inequality symbol.

4.     Identify and apply the opposite and reciprocal of a rational number.

5.     Solve one and two step real-world problems involving rational numbers.

6.     Use estimation strategies to select a reasonable solution to a computation involving rational numbers.

7.     Connect rational numbers to locations on a number line.

 

      Unit VII  Proportional Reasoning -  20% of Grade

1.      Use ratios to represent quantitative relationships.

2.     Extend rate charts to understand real-world problems.

3.     Develop methods for solving problems involving proportions.

4.     Convert from one unit to another within the same system.

5.     Understand and use  both metric and  customary systems of measurement.

6.     Identify corresponding parts of congruent and similar triangles to further develop understanding of proportional reasoning.

7.     Solve problems involving scale factors using ratios and proportions.

First Nine Weeks Course Outline

First Nine Weeks:  The students’ first nine weeks grade will be based on evidence that they are able to master the following learning targets:

Unit I.  Number Theory and Operation    20% of grade

1.     Represent numbers by using exponents including negative exponents.

2.     Express large numbers in scientific notation and translate between scientific and standard notation.

3.     Use the order of operations to simplify numerical operations and compute with whole numbers, decimals and fractions.  

4.     Find the prime factorization of composite numbers and apply number theory concepts to solve problems.

5.     Find the greatest common factor and least common multiple of two or more whole numbers.

6.      Recognize that rational numbers satisfy the commutative and associative laws of addition and multiplication and the distributive law.

7.     Report  results of calculations appropriately in a given context (i.e. using rules of rounding, degree of accuracy, and/or significant digits.

Unit II  Data Analysis/ Statistics    20% of grade

1.      Identify populations and random samples.

2.     Find mean, median, mode and range for a set of data.

3.     Organize and interpret data in frequency tables and stem-and-leaf plots.

4.     Display and analyze data in bar graphs, histograms, line graphs, circle graphs, scatter plots, and in box-and- whisker plots.

5.     Identify and analyze misleading graphs.

6.     Interpret and employ various graphs and charts to represent date and solve problems using information presented in various visual forms.

 

Unit III  Numbers and Operations Utilizing  Integer Concepts  20% of grade

1.      Compare and order integers and compute efficiently.

2.     Determine absolute value and relate to distance from zero.

3.     Plot and identify order pairs on a coordinate plane.

4.     Add and subtract integers efficiently and use the number to demonstrate this skill.

5.     Solve one-step equations with integers.

Unit IV  Math Language, Symbols and Problem Solving     20%

  Each content unit will include activities related to math language, symbols and problem solving. Grades for these activities will be reflected in this category.

Unit V   Responsibility     20%

   Grades in this category include but are not limited to: coming to class on time with all required materials, unit folder check, classroom participation, entrance activities, exit activities and could include other assignments as designated by the teacher.
