First Quarter Learning Targets

Sixth Grade Art

Students’ first nine weeks grade will be based on evidence they can do the following:

  • Learn the purpose of, create, develop and maintain an artist sketchbook.

  • Learn the purpose of, create, develop and maintain an artist portfolio.
  • Learn the Elements and Principles of Design and be able to use these terms accurately when describing art or during an art critique.

Elements: line, color, value, shape, form, texture, space

Principles: pattern, contrast, unity, variety, balance, emphasis, movement, rhythm

  • DRAWING-  Be able to demonstrate understanding of the following:

contour line, blind contour, gesture, still life, portrait, foreground, middleground, background

  • COLOR THEORY/PAINTING- Be able to demonstrate understanding of the following:

color wheel, primary, secondary, warm, cool, complementary pairs, schemes

  • CERAMICS- Be able to demonstrate understanding of the following:

pinch, slab, relief, score, slip, press, glaze, kiln, fire

  • BOOKMAKING- Be able to demonstrate understanding of the following:

traditional, accordion, sculptural, collage, illustration, symbol, graphics, mixed media

Seventh Grade Art

 

Students’ nine weeks grade will be based on evidence they can do the following:

  • Learn the purpose of, create, develop and maintain an artist sketchbook.

  • Learn the Elements and Principles of Design and be able to use these terms accurately when describing art or during an art critique.

  • DRAWNG- Be able to demonstrate understanding of the following:

value, gradation, scale, shading, shadow, blending, 1 point perspective

  • COLOR THEORY/PAINTING- Be able to demonstrate understanding of the following:

(review of color theory from 6th grade and…) tertiary, analogous, split- complementary, transparent, opaque, focal point

  • CERAMICS- Be able to demonstrate understanding of the following:

(review of ceramics from 6th grade and…) coil, function, craft

  • PRINTMAKING- Be able to demonstrate understanding of the following:

relief, positive space, negative space, brayer, ink, registration, edition

Eighth Grade Art

Students’ nine weeks grade will be based on evidence they can do the following:

  • Learn the purpose of, create, develop and maintain an artist sketchbook.

  • Learn the purpose of, create, develop and maintain an artist portfolio.
  • Learn the Elements and Principles of Design and be able to use these terms accurately when describing art or during an art critique.

  • DRAWNG- Be able to demonstrate understanding of the following:

(review of drawing from 7th grade and…) hatching, crosshatching, composition, proportion, 2 pt perspective

  • COLOR THEORY/PAINTING- Be able to demonstrate understanding of the following:

(review of color theory from 7th grade and…) hue, monochromatic, tint, shade, tone, neutral, intensity

  • CERAMICS- Be able to demonstrate understanding of the following:

(review of ceramics from the 7th grade and…) modeling, handbuilt, wheelbuilt, clay stages greenware, leather hard, bone dry, vitrify, bisque, finished piece

  • SCULPTURE- Be able to demonstrate understanding of the following:

 3-D, armature, carving, casting, assemblage, subtractive, stable, mobile, freestanding
