Nonfiction/Personal Account
Plot:
The books tells the story of the
1996 Mt Everest tragedy in which
the most people died on the
mountain in one year than in any
other year to this day. Jon
Krakauer originally planned to
go no higher than base camp
(16,700 feet) for an Outsider
magazine article, but later
changed his mind once he saw the
monstrous summit on the
airplane. This book also
explains the entire history of
the mountain and its many people
who have attempted to scale to
the pinnacle of the world.
good:
It was in first person which put
you in the story and made you
feel as if you had a personal
connection with all of the
characters. It was also true,
which puts more drama into it.
weaknesses:
The author's sentences do not
flow smoothly together. He will
write a series of long complex
sentences, then will write a
series of short choppy
sentences.
