Nonfiction-Autobiography

Plot:

Red Scarf Girl is about a girl named Ji-LI Jiang and her family. They are living in China during a time when the government is trying to get rid of the "four olds" and replace them with the "four news" so that China can become a better and more modern country.  Ji-Li's family has a bad political background because Ji-Li's grandfather was a landlord. This causes them to be exposed by the government and changes Ji-Li's life forever........

good:

The best part about the text was that the writer did a really good job of showing that the main character was confused on whether to be on the governments side or her familys.  JI-Li could have either changed her family name, or she could have stuck with her family.

weaknesses:

Red Scarf Girl was way too slow. Sometimes you would have five pages on something like a person getting their house searched by the government.
