All Fairview Middle School students are encouraged to participate in the actvities/clubs of their choice.  Please contact the club sponsor if you have any questions. 

 

ART CLUB

The Art Club is designed for any 6th, 7th, or 8th FMS student who is interested in art.  Students will explore more in depth than the regular art program, the use of different art mediums and styles while creating their own works. Club dues are $45.00 and include the following benefits: Art Scholastic Magazine subscription, art materials and supplies, sketchbook and pencils, student designed art club t-shirt, guest artists, 2 field trips (fall '06 and spring '07) to Nashville to see art shows at various museums.  The Fall '06 field trip will be to the Frist Center for the Visual Arts to see the current exhibit "Quest for Immortality: Treasures of Ancient Egypt".   Students also participate in some art related community service projects.
Art Club meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month beginning in September.  Information packets can be picked up in Ms. Vinci’s room beginning on Monday August 28th and at Parent Open House Tues. August 29th
 


 

BETA CLUB

Beta Club is offered to "honor students" who wish to serve their community in a variety of ways. It is a nonprofit organization whose members volunteer for school ( Help with Open House and Career Day, community( Mulch Bowie playground) , and often, world causes (Katrina relief collections in the school)Students must have "A" (91) average at first semester to qualify, and then be evaluated by teachers for character to be nominated.  Nominations begin a first semester ending.


 

CHORUS

Chorus is open to all students by audition.  Chorus will meet after school two days per week from 2:30 - 3:20 PM  The meetings will be either Monday or Tuesday 9to be decided by vote) and Thursday.  The choir will present at least two programs and sing at the local retirement facility.  All interested students are encouraged to try out.  The only fee is the cost of a shirt, about $10.



DANCE TEAM

Dance Team tryouts are in the spring and upcoming 6th graders are welcome. The Dance Team practices are primarily on Tuesday and Thursdays after school  in the cafeteria from 2:30 - 5:00 PM. 

 

DESTINATION IMAGINATION

Creative problem solving with teams of seven is the focus of this club.  Announcements will be made in the fall regarding times and how to sign up.

MATH TEAM

Students practice math problems to prepare for county and state competitions throughout the year  Students are chosen by the faculty based upon their achievement and math ability.  The club meets in Mrs Easterling's room after school on Thursdays from 2:30 - 3:30.

 

STARS EXECUTIVE COUNCIL  (SEC)

Stars SEC will have signups in August and will start meeting in September.  The meetings will take place in the STARS room after school.  The SEC schedules STARS activities and presentations for the entire school.


 

STUDENT COUNCIL

Applications can be picked up outside the school office the second week of the beginning school yearA school wide election will be held for the officers.
Meetings are the second Wednesday of each month. (the months special activities or events are going on does require additional meeting times).  Meetings are usually a hour unless we have special events going on.

 

TECHNOLOGY STUDENT ASSOCIATION (TSA)

Our annual membership drive will begin Tuesday August 14th.  Students are charged a $25 activity fee to participate in after school activities.  All FMS students are eligible to be members and students may join at anytime throughout the year.  Meetings are scheduled based on the various activities throughout the year.  Students should pay attention to announcements to know when meetings will occur.   All meetings are held in the Technology Lab and students should always be picked up from the back of the school at the end of meetings.  The length of the meeting is determined by the purpose of the meeting.

The major activities that our TSA chapter participates in during the year are the Regional, State, and National TSA competitive event conferences.  We also participate in at least one leadership conference during the year, and other field trips and activities related to Technology

 

YEARBOOK

Walking Club

Club members meet twice a week throughout the school year. Walking will take place both outside, weather permitting, or inside the school. The goal is to create and maintain a lifestyle change of walking routinely to improve the student's overall health. Each student will initially be measured for height, weight and blood pressure. Additional measurements will be taken intermittently throughout the school year to compare with the initial measurements. All measurements are conducted in a confidential setting and kept in each student's individual record. Students will be provided educational information about healthy nutritional choices.  Information sheets will be provided to students with written consent needed from their parents to join. Acceptance in the club is limited to the first fifteen students who return their consent forms.
The club will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays immediately after school until 3:30 pm.
