Students at FMS have many opportunities to
explore careers during their middle school years.
Starting next year, sixth graders will take the Career Game
interest inventory, the seventh graders will take the Kuder
Interest Inventory and the eighth graders will take the
Explore test, as they have in the past. All of these
inventories will help students start to take a look at what
career direction they may want to take. The following
GREAT websites provide additional career exploration. Tennessee Career Information Delivery System This is an awesome website for career exploration! Students can take an interest inventory, explore a huge database of career/job descriptions, and then find out what colleges and tech schools have programs in the career area that they are interested in. The United States StormTroopers - This page provides links to all branches of the military! Anything you wanted to know about the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, or Coast Guard is contained here. Kuder Career Planning Every FMS student can take this online career and ability assessment for free. See Mr. Wilson or Ms. Becky for your password to use this site. The Career Key This is a website that allows you to take a short test that measures your skills, abilities, values, interests and personality. Then it matches your particular traits with different careers and gives you lots of information about the careers. College Information by State - Links to every College and University in the Universe (well, at least in the United States)! Check them out and see what college offers the major that you are interested in. It is not too early to start considering different colleges. The Occupational Outlook Handbook From the U.S. Department of Labor, this website provides an incredible amount of information about hundreds of careers and jobs in the United States. Find out about the nature of the work, working conditions, training, job outlook, earnings and related occupations. LifeWorks - You can explore over 100 careers in Health and Medical Science on this website from the National Institute of Science. Also included is advice to 8th grade students on how to start preparing for careers in these areas. Princeton Review Career Quiz - Here is a short interest inventory you can take to find out what career areas you might find the most rewarding. Adventure in Education - Middle School - This is a great site for planning your future. Check it out! Lots of good tips on what you can do now to make sure you keep all your options open when you are ready to go to college or any post high school training.
