Tracy
Vaughn’s sixth grade social studies
classes are finishing up their
studies of early cultures. The
students have learned about the
first technologies, such as making
fire and agricultural practices of
the ancient people. They also have
studied the locations of the first
civilizations and the conditions of
the areas that made the area
conducive to thriving
civilizations. Finally, students
learned timelines in respect to BC
and AD. Students will next study
river valley civilizations, starting
with ancient Egypt.
Tuesday
School
picture retakes will be tomorrow.
They are free if students’ eyes are
closed in first picture, or if the
students were absent. Otherwise,
students should have $5.00 cash for
another sitting. Congratulations to
the Positive Behavior Program’s
winners for September. They each
received a DVD player. Sixth
Grade: Felicia Williams; Seventh
Grade: Casey Arrington; and Eighth
Grade: Monica Lara. Students are
rewarded by faculty and staff at
Fairview Middle for following the
five rules of “Positive Behavior” by
being awarded PBS tickets for their
adherence to the rules of the
program. Teacher winners included
Wanda Welch, Jim Mann, Johanna
Bourdon, and Drew Reimer.
Wednesday
Mary
Ellen Chesser, Fairview Middle’s new
school nurse, has sent home a notice
to parents that she will be
screening students for early
detection of possible later health
problems associated with blood
pressure and healthy body mass.
Sixth grade will be tested
Wednesday, October 11, seventh grade
will be tested on October 18, and
eighth grade will be tested on
October 25. Results are
confidential and will be sent home
in letter form to the parents.
Thursday
Fairview Middle School will hold a
“Blackout Pep Rally” this afternoon
which promises to raise spirits and
cheer the team on to victory.
Barbara Hall’s and Lisa Kennedy’s
sixth grade language arts classes
are reading fiction in a novel
entitled, There’s a Boy in the
Girls’ Bathroom. Along with
this, they are having fun with
vocabulary, sequencing of events,
main ideas. The students are also
comparing and contrasting themselves
to a character about whom they are
reading. The students’ PBA on “The
Self” is due on October 20.
Students will be on “Fall Break,”
Friday, Monday, and Tuesday. Have a
restful few days, and return on
Wednesday.
